Nice work! Would love to know what wheels those truly are and if we can grab some here.

thanks gents. :steer:

I have been struggling to sort out some wiring. Something that should have taken me an afternoon, and something that I have done before in an afternoon has given me close to 3 full days’ worth of issues.

I’ll put up some pics of the finished product when it’s done…. My hundy seems to keep me VERY busy and VERY poor, but that was kind of the point when I got her.

The list looks a bit like this at the moment. (expect pics and details on all)

1. Fix wiring issue
2. Clean out throttle body
3. New diff fluid (I know I STILL haven’t gotten around to it)
4. 1 x Front wheel lug replacement
5. Rear door rattle
6. Rear door weather strip
7. Squeaky driver’s door
8. Squeaky door panels
9. Check suspension components (retighten all)
10. Clunk from RHS when turning right… haven’t been able to diagnose - Fixed! It was loose body mounts.
11. Extend sway bar links and reinstall sway bars with new bushes
12. Front carpets
13. Bowl of vinegar trick
14. Head light clean out
15. New halogens for fog lights
16. Orange out of rear lights
17. LC100 Dakar style recovery points
18. Buy new winch bracket, wire and install winch
19. Front pinion seal
20. Roof rack
21. Roof rack spots
22. Paint
23. Finish running boards
24. Additional 12V outlets

And the list goes on :hillbilly::wrench:

all the unanswerd questions from the last few pages....

I love that cool box. That thing looks awesome. What the coldest it can get?
On MAX It will take a warm beer down to the perfect drinking temp in about 5 min.... and thats all that matters :D its a propper fringe not a AC'd box so it dose a propper job.

What surprises me in these photos is all the (surface) rust we see. Combo of "sandblasting" and humidity (+sea salt), or just the way things are?
She would have spent the last 10 years of its life never further than 5km from the sea, and all the dunes are a bit slaty as you get a onshore breaze every evening while the water is cool and the dunes are still cooking.

I'm gonna regear before I put 315's on
I know I have a tuned 4.7 V8 at sea level, but I still cant see the need to re-gear. You get a tiny bit of chasing with the 315's and the auto box but that can be controlled with proper use of the OD button, and I really didnt notice a power drop.

And do the black rims
If i end up going to a black front and rear bumper, ill paint the trim and wheels, otherwise the plan at the moment is to make a "stock monster" :D

Day 13/14 - Trail lights

Trail lights, YAY

they are going to be so pointless :hillbilly::wrench:

EDIT: they are the best thing I have ever done, they make working on her so much better in the evenings and at night

If I posted that pic, I would get flamed by other members :D

Prolly wont happen to you though! Nice lights, why not mount them in the engine bay so you can wrench at night:wrench::wrench:

They are NOT parking lot "pimp my ride" lights, they are for fun and games and night time recoveries in the dunes (The arabs only head out at 5pm and periodilcy cause havoc in the dark).

so you can wrench at night:wrench::wrench:
Thats the other point, go and look at all my pics, 80% of my wrenching time is in the evenings and im sick of my head lamp. I will need an aux battery setup as 6x 55 halogens will kill the main bat pretty quickly if the engine isnt running.

The reflection off the floor means I have perfect light in the engine bay, and any aditional light will come from the top giving me 360 lighting :)

They have already solved one of my big issues... remember that clunk, well while doing an underside inspection with my new light, I found thr front 3 body mounts on the RHS where loose. Clunk gone! :bounce:

The front ones should be a no brainer for any trail rig.
they light up everything the fogs and headligts miss, including the engine bay, front suspension, and best of all the winch!

Some fun in the dunes:

My little sister spent the weekend in Doha on her way home from spain so I took Amy and the family for a spin in the dunes... not that many pics as no one wanted to get out of the car in the 50 degree heat ;)

WARNING: Poser Shots :hillbilly::wrench:

While I had my old man there and both swaybars off I decided to take some measurments for the longer bump stops... this is where I want the flex to end so I dont destory me fenders. (my little sis thinks its BIG joke that we have to stop and little drive up a rock so I can measure my car)

Every now and then you see a GX with a set of roof bars, and more and more of the 200's here have them. Its strange because just about all of the prado's and fortuers come with them???

Having fun yet?

I’m having LOTS of fun! To me the build is just as exciting as the drive because I am learning SO SO much about, suspension, drive trains, electronics......

After this weekend’s drive in the dunes though, I really wish I had a tip shift auto box, the down change just came way way to late and I lost a lot of momentum that stopped me climbing a lot of dunes.

I also got a “WARNING A/T Temp” light after getting stuck in a bowl for a bit, now I know it’s 50 degrees but I have never had that in the FJ.

(I didn’t have the "power" connected, I need to hook it back up and try again.... hopefully that will get the box to change down earlier otherwise I’m going to seriously start to look for a used tranny from an 07.)

oh and with they overheat of the tranny comes a tranny fluid flush.... joy! (not one of my foavorite things to do)

I think I might just take it and pay for a full oil and tranny flush ;)
