So as time with Amy winds to a close I thought I had better update my build thread with some of the pictures that have been gathering dust on my desktop. They have been put up in other threads so I apologise to the "modmins" for the duplicates but if everything is here hopefully it will make for a decent story for future mudders.

Was it worth it….. YUP but it took 5 hours to get the first round of mud off, she had to go to have the steering rack overhauled and then another 5 hour clean.

Pictures of the stock wheels and tyres on the 2.5” lift. Coming from the BFG’s that properly filled out the wheel arches, the stock tyres that sit inside the fender just look silly.

why are you selling after putting such an effort? i don't get it.

Because she is OLD, I’m back off to South Africa this Thursday and will only be back on the 8th, so I’m not going to push a sale. I’ll throw some vinyl’s and running boards back on and a for sale sign in the window, see what I get offered, if its good I’ll take it, if not ill hold onto the :princess: and try my best to get some things done on Saturdays.

If she goes she goes if she stays she stays... I’m happy either way, it’s been an AWSOME and very educational experience, her job was to be a learning tool and to build a 100, something I have always wanted to do.

and a good job at that you did...

I understand completely. you need a clean car to start with... that is why I hold on to my 100 and been shipping it back and forth from Dubai to here... it is because it is a clean car.

I will see if anyone is interested but I should think if you just patch up the paint job your car now looks much better and should recover its value i believe.

Burned out

I see you haven't posted in a couple weeks, so this may be a moot point. If you haven't sold your LC I think you just need to chill for a while. I did much of the same thing when I bought my FZJ80 8 months ago. I read way too much on mud and then attacked it non stop nights, weekends, early mornings, and I loved doing it.
Everything done in the first 6 months that I remember-

Took out all the seats, center console and plastic trim. Cleaned, scrubbed, shampoo'd everything including headliner. I swear to god the PO must have run a petting zoo in my LC:bang:
Replaced a dozen little broken trim pieces that were cracked, chipped, or missing. Some new OEM, some used OEM. Anything not OEM under the hood was put back into OEM condition. By this I mean missing trim on top of valve cover, non OEM oil cap, a bunch of little clasps and hold downs, etc.

Change/Flush
Engine oil to synthetic and new OEM filter of course
Front, rear, center differential
Transmission 5 times
Power steering to ATF
Brake fluid flush, bleed
Radiator flush Distilled water and new coolant
Greased every drive line zerk

...then
New intake boot
New OEM air filter
New spark plug grommet seals and new valve cover gasket
New OEM plugs, wires, distributor and new dist o-ring
New brakes and rotors
New wheel bearings
Antenna mast
New 285/75/16 Geolander's
New OEM belts and hoses
PHH
Rebuilt Power steering pump
Dual battery
Rear outlets and fridge
Center diff lock and 7 pin mod
Hand throttle
New OEM shocks all around
Removed mirrors fixed the rattles, repainted black
Painted flares and front bumper with black bumper and trim paint plus a light coat of truck bed liner to hide flaws.

I got to a point where I saw no end to the things I NEEDED to do and it started seeming pointless. That's when my :princess: chimed in and told me to just enjoy it and slow down:clap:

I only really needed to do the fluids and scrubbing to make it driveable and safe. Probably my OCD pushed the rest, something I think I share with a lot of my brother mudders.

The point is it is very expensive and time consuming to try to do a complete restoration on a 12-17 year old vehicle by yourself in a carport on bricks:o
Most of your expense and time has been spent on things that you wanted, and I expect you will have a whole new list of wants when you acquire your newer LC.

Just enjoy it, deal with stuff as it comes up, spend some time with friends and 23 year old South African girls, have a beer and just:steer:

Funner has a VERY valid point, and thanks for posting!

I went home to south Africa for xmas holidays got a 3 week break from cruiser work, the job, and my life and when I got back I came the same conclusion. So much time and effort has gone into her, she really is the best car she should ever be at the moment and the problems where not that big.

I started to chill and do a little bit here and there in the evenings, I have found a little garage down the road with a mechanic who loves my car and charges me peanuts to do work, so he changed the back breaks and fixed the hand break, cut out some of my exhaust, I go down there after work some evenings with a we drink Arabic tea and work on things together. I rewired my spotlights and put in HID last weekend when there was a dust storm and I couldn’t ride.

I’m also about to stop riding for 3 months so will have some spare mornings if I need them and I may only be over here another 6months or so.... she is staying. ;)

I will do a write up on the HID and spotlights as well, I have a half built drawer system in the back garden and need to fix the sunroof, there will be a few more posts to Gunnys built thread.
For now ill just update it with a few more pics…

yes this is a repost from the pictures thread but i like to keep a running tally of everything on my build thread.

My gran came to visit us in Qatar, I’ve promised her I wouldn’t tell you how old she is but one thing has become apparent, she LOVES the cruiser

We decided to hit the west coast of Qatar for a cup of coffee and a bit of an explore, you can drive from one side of Qatar to the other in under 2 hours so nothing is very far away... we did however find what one can only assume is the moon.

I got to play a little bit but was worried about tyres and my mother did not approve of rock climbing with the family in the car.

Filling up with petrol, lots and lots of petrol to go anywhere in the 100 (and snacks)

Back from the dark side

I am really glad to hear your change of heart. I love reading your posts and seeing all the pics. You are in a dream land for cruisers and the scenery at the dunes is inspiring. Keep up the thread and enjoy this time in your life. I'll keep watching.

Am I the only one that stands on the tire to wash the roof?
