Hello everyone. Of course I'm a n00b...in more ways than one. n00b to the board, and n00b LC owner.

Bought my Cruiser just this past weekend, and have never owned one before. I'm pretty excited, but pretty ignorant to what I can do with it. Should be interesting.

It is a 1993 Land Cruiser. From what I can tell that is a 80FZ Series (1FZ-FE marked on the engine). It appears to be totally stock right now...no lifts, no additions, no nothing. It has 136k for mileage, and the only thing wrong with it is that the front bumper is a bit bent inward.

Well like I said...I'm a total newbie with this, so any suggestions are welcome. The only modification I have planned so far is a simple hitch (I've got a White Rim Trail permit, and need a hitch for a bike rack ASAP!).

Ok...enough talk...pics.

looks good!

i would go ahead and put an aftermarket bumper on instead of fixing the stock one. the general consinsus is ARB, but i have a tjm and love it, slee is also another bumper that people here like.

Welcome aboard!

You have a unique vehicle. Very few 1FZ engines have the designation decal affixed to the valve cover. Only very early production vehicles exibit that. I have one on my September 1992 production rig.

It appears that you have a colth interior which leads me to believe that your vehicle is un-locked. Still a nice find.
It also appears that someone has changed the center caps to the 95-97 style pieces.

Looking good!

Check out the FAQ and use the search. Between those two you can almost answer any question or get ideas for mods.

Nice looking rig, you can fix that bumper by replacing it with an ARB front bumber.

Not too many 13+ year old vehicles are worth buying. You found one of them!

Welcome!

Unlocked? I assume that refers to the differential. All I know is that my differentials lock in when I put it in Low automatically. No way to lock them in High. And they are always locked in Low. Which I can see as not great all the time. Being able to lock em in & out when needed would be better. I thought I read somewhere where there was a modification to do this however...but maybe I'm wrong.

And what do you mean by the Center Caps?

Sorry...I warned you all...I pretty new at all this.

Welcome!

Thanks! I figured the same thing. I was shocked when I found it. I was actually out test driving 4-Runners and this was just sitting on the lot. I couldnt resist once I test drove it and checked out all the numbers on it.

Something tells me that this rig was a "soccer mom's" rig before I got my hands on it. Seems REALLY well taken care of.

Congrats on the Truck and welcome, you will find this place to pretty much be your warranty for your truck, an indispensible tool.

Have fun modding her, and yes ARB for the front. But first go over the whole truck and familerize yourself with everything, baseline all fluids etc.....

Welcome. The center caps Dan is refering to are the plastic middle pieces on the wheels. They look different on 93-94 and then 95-97.

The lockers people are refering to are differential locks in the axles. They greatly increase traction off road. All 80 series Cruisers have a center differential lock, some came with optional lockers in the front and rear differentials.

You got your truck at a great dealership, several of the service techs there are Cruiser friends. You should check out the local TLCA chapter, Wasatch Cruisers when you get a chance. You'll get lots of ideas of things to do to your truck and lots of ways to spend money. :)

You should really hook up with Wasatch Cruisers, your area TLCA chapter. There are several guys within an hour drive of you that would likely be very willing to help you get your maintenance up to snuff and help you learn your new baby.

edit  Don't you hate it when two guys post the same thing at the same time?

Nice rig indeed, I see you have finaly covered all the bases on the local and web front.
Sorry I havent been much help on the things you have asked about on other sites, Been working on the 40 too much.
I cant say if my bumper is much nicer but if you want it for free when you return, You are more than welcome to it, I have a ARB winch bumper on the way.... :)
Im in Taylorsville if you didnt notice.
Good luck

I've been on Wasatch Cruisers website, and I've registered to connect up with them...still waiting for my registration to clear their moderators.

But thanks to everyone for the posts and ideas...I appreciate it. I cant wait to get my new ride out on a trail or 2. As well as start working on some modifications.

I'm pretty excited to learn more about my new ride, and really have some fun with it!!

Seems like relocating the spare tire is a common modification...I'm thinking that sounds like a fun project.

Looks like a nice score!

Congrats and welcome aboard!

Thanks. I'm technically in Murray, just off of Redwood from 215...I just call it all SLC though.

I'm thinking that when I go for fixing the front bumper...I'll do a totaly bumper/brushguard upgrade kind of deal. I just have to decide what name to go with. ARB seems to be the popular choice. But I appreciate the offer.

As for the roof rack. My research so far has given me lots of options and things to think about...almost too many I think! I think for the short term I am going to just put on a Thule box (I already have one), and think about all the other options for a bit before I decide.

Some others have suggested that Suspension & bumper upgrades should maybe be priority...then the roof. So...I'll consider that route.

Edit:

The only thing I think that isnt "stock" is the stereo. JVC stereo, seems to have had a speaker upgrade in all 4 door panels.

It's a Sirius ready stereo...I'm adding the Sirius component next week. I've had Sirius in my previous car for about 2 years and love it. I can't live without it!

You are on Yoats, Have a look at what Johnny has put together, The "J-Moose" rack, Good stuff , fairly inexpensive considering most sturdy racks run in the $1,000.00 + range. This will depand on your mechanicl abaility :)
On your bumper get a hold of Kurt at www.cruiseroutfitters.com He IS the man and local.

:D Yeah...Kurt @ Cruiseroutfitters seems like a good guy...and a good place for parts & modifications. I've gotten in touch with him already. And yeah...I've checked out the J-Moose rack. Looks pretty cool...but I'd like one with some "sidewalls" on it. I like the ARB front bumper...looks really cool, and I'm sure it is bomber.

Unfortunately...I have a decent amount of mechanical ability...but short on the tools to do it all. But I still could maybe pull it off.

We are practically neighbors! I'm just off 6200 S. & Redwood...just East a bit from Redwood. I'll have to buy you a beer sometime. I added my Yahoo & AIM so feel free to contact me anytime.

No need to buy me a beer I rarely go without:beer:
Im sure you will get all sorts of info as to what you "need" but its you who will need to filter all the who-ha.
Sorry you werent on the WC site earlier, in the last 2 months there have been 2 ABR rack's sold.
Have fun in Moab when were you going?
