My front passenger window has quit working completly. Looking to hear more on some motor replacements........

While I was in at Johns shop today, I mentioned my ps window was not working.

He arched his eyebrows in that mysterious way of his, opened the door, and pounded on the inside of the door with his fist.

The window now works again ;)

That's awesome ! Something I usually do however results in more broken stuff to repair...

IME with old Toyotas the first thing to try with slow windows is cleaning the window run.

Around the shop we use compressed air and silicone spray to clear dust and debris from the window run. Roll window down. Spray silicone spray and chase with compressed air. This can temporarily restore window operation for weeks if not months.

If this works, you're due for new window runs.

Modifying bigger motors to work with our windows is a very interesting idea. Somebody go guinea pig this please. If jeeps can have fast working power windows, why can't we?

This used to work for mine but it stopped responding a few months ago. Yesterday I finally got round to replacing the runs and used the FSM to track the DS fault to the motor.

Once removed I could get it to work by dropping it on the drive from a foot or so but that's not really practical so I stripped the gearbox off the motor and cleared out twenty years worth of carbon from the brushes and the motor, changed the very nasty grease and now it is shooting up and down (relatively speaking).

:banana: job, less if you have a pal to help keep the window from dropping on your hand while it's in the door cavity.

I would have a look at your motor's innards before the end of the summer.

I will be into my passenger side here real quick. It's starting to get hot (for Oregon). My window came off the track and is currently non op. I'm due for an a/c pump clutch rebuild too. Guess I'm going to be hating the 80 this summer unless I get those things fixed! I mean, other than hating it for it's fantastic fuel economy.

I was at the wrecking yard today so I picked up a Explorer drivers side window motor to compare with the Land Cruiser. Short answer is that the Explorer motor is not a direct fit, every dimension is larger. One may be able to make it fit on the regulator with some machining but I am not sure it would clear the window even then.

Just replaced my front window runs with new ones from Akella.

Previously, my passenger side window would not roll down or up on it's own, you had to help it along with your hand. The driver side worked, but was slow, and in cold/wet weather you had to help it along too.

The runs I pulled out were so hard that I swear you could make coffee table legs out of them. But the new ones... soft and supple (just how I like them). They have completely fixed my window issues. Both windows now roll down/up just fine and don't need any help.

They aren't as fast as a newer ford, for example, but the fact they are working properly makes me happy. That and the fact I dont have to lean over to help them up.

Just replaced my runs too...I would highly recommend doing this when/if you plan on soundproofing the door panels too since you need to pull everything apart for both tasks. It would have been much easier to have done the window runs prior to Fatmat being installed...

Doh!

Just finishing up my Dynamated doors. I have the new runs waiting for install. What makes the sound deadener a pain when installing the runs.

Easiest way to get runs installed is to reach inside door panel and pull them down with window rolled up as far as you can get it. Pulling the runs is much easier than pushing them down the tracks. To pull the runs you will need to pull back the soundproofing...

Sorry to bump an old thread...well not really... but do the lx’s Have this problem? If not, will their windows work in ours?
