Oh man! :eek::frown:
Have two kids of the same age in the back seats and I'm truly glad that everyone made it unscathed (but the Cruiser).
As far as the insurance is concerned, will they have an expert have a look at the car and check what went awry? It's not everyday that we see such things happening here. Are you going to get it towed somewhere?

The insurance company is having it towed to their lot for inspection.

:eek: WOW. That it crazy. Glad everyone was OK. Best wishes on insurance and your quest for a new 80 :D

I like that extinguisher bracket a lot.

x2.

Looks like a plate of metal with a single bend and a rolled section.
I'd probably paint it to match the carpet.

I have an extinguisher mounted to the side of the console where that cup holder is. There is a metal frame piece inside the console so the strap has a good mount to it.

Does anyone think these small units would actually put out a car fire? I carry mine for putting out people.

Joey, remember, we talked about this at the last trail crew lunch meeting. There are not many good places to mount a good sized extinguisher in the 80 that allow for quick retrieval.

I just drove back from a meeting tonight in my 80. This location in front of the seat should not interfere at all with the driver's comfort.

There's probably other ways to mount it in the same area. Perhaps a little closer to the front of the seat.

During CERT training we got to test out these small hand held units, CO2 tanks, large ABC commercial extinguishers and just plain pressurized water. In order of effectiveness I noticed (and Fire Fighters in the group please chime in):

• Best- Commercial ABC Extinguisher
• Good- CO2
• Good/ok- water
• Worst- small hand-held unit

Although I don't have the larger refillable commercial models I do have two larger hand-held bottles I picked up. The small ones, after using them, were good for small fires like basically the first 10 seconds of the fire. The other interesting thing we learned is that the fire literally doubles in size every 10 seconds. So that extra ten seconds it takes to get out of the truck, work the IPOR open to get into the hatch (hopefully its unlocked) and the fire has now doubled in size.

The CERT trainer did like the fact that I have a 10# CO2 bottle in the truck because heat is such an issue with an engine bay fire and the CO2 is a great cooling agent plus fire retardant.

In front or on side of the driver HAS to be position #1. In the event of an accident and the door is rendered inoperable, there would be no way to get to it if its on the door side of the driver's seat. Front of seat works nice after I went downstairs and started playing with locations.

Being as the driver's seat never moves forward (no reason to) mounting it on a bracket that utilizes the seat brackets is the way to go perhaps using a single Quick-Fist.

Fire Extinguisher mounted in front of the driver's seat in an 80. From the French TLC magazine:

I don't know the purpose of the hose.

That's an air hose with a safety coupling on it. I have the same style on my Powertank. You push the button (Blue) and a fully charged air hose safely releases instead of shooting across the room.

Sorry about your loss. How far are you from NY city. There are a couple 80s in the area for under 4k with lockers. We could try to get you some help checking them out and get one to you as a replacement. I know of 1 that already has small swampers and an ARB bumper.

Wow. Glad everyone was ok and sorry for the loss. I can feel your pain, in some weird way.

Good luck with getting a new one.

Glad ya'll are OK. I would go get the bumper, a weakened ARB is still a lot stronger than a stock bumper.

Ohh man its horrible We have the whole event captured video's and photos so I'm not concerned about them thinking it was fraud. Its very evident from what we have that we were lucky to get everyone out.

They certainly are graphic pictures!
Sorry for the loss of your 80 mate, but glad you and your family came out unscathed.
Good luck finding your new rig!
