SGI just passed a policy for no tires over 34" so as long as we make it to the border, we're golden!!

:D

Wow feels like a long time since I've been on.
Too many days spent on my cruiser....and more to come !

Great idea regarding the list!
I am going to email you tonight.
June is creeping up fast, time to kick it into high gear/ :)

What is "SGI" ?

It's our Saskatchewan Government Insurance. The only game in town. New bumper heights, 34" tire maximum, restricted SOA. It's a gong show.

If you want to see the policy take a look over at Fight SGI's Raised Vehicle Policy (2008)

We just have to make a run for the Alberta border the day of our trip and get out of the province. I have a letter frm the head of SGI that states we are golden on our insurance until we get ticketed to go through an inspection...and you have 30 day to do that...

I can't wait to meet everyone!

Hi all. Been gone all week. Anybody been in contact with Mark? I have the contact list ready to send. Going to wait till middle of this wek to send it out. Any late comers please pm me with contact info and I will add you on the list. I'm bumed.. No 4" heavies available from Slee. I'm sagging on my mediums. Hitting the treadmill.. Need to lose some weight. cya

I visited with Mark at his shop on Monday, Memorial Day. I'm part of the Alaska Cruiser Crew. Are you coming up for the Trek?

Please have Mark post up. We need to know (at least I do) if everthing is still a go. Leaving in 3 weeks.

I just talked to Mark about 2200 hrs tonight, He is supposed to post up, I now I have posted this about 6 times but he only has dial up at the shop and has been getting to the shop early in the morning and getting home late and hasnt been spending much time on the net. If you need to contact him, email him directly, he has been checking his emails. He's been eyeball deep in work, and keeps meaning to post up. Imagine you had not just your rig but 7 or 8 rigs that you are trying to get done at one time and you would start to grasp how deep he is in right now. Everything is definately a go, hopefully I will be able to attend too.

Sorry Pat, Maybe I am making this 8800 mile trip a bigger thing than what it is..

Thanks for the email contact list Bob,

We are getting very excited. I am doing the final install testing of the shower today. The wife ran off with the other car and I left my garden hoses in the back...It's driving me crazy to see how this thing works!!

My list is getting shorter. All I have left is the fuel storage, install Engel fridge when it shows up and figure out a power source for the compressor.

I know Mark usually hauls in A LOT of fuel, and I think he recommends a minimum to bring, but I was was wondering what others are doing. Going with the minmium or taking LOTS of fuel?? I am going with regular tank an two 20L scepter cans for sure and I might throw in a third...

Thats what I'm doing. 3 Scepter Cans. 2 for Gas and 1 for water. Your onboard shower homemade or a kit? What kind? With my drawer system sometimes I wish I would have gotten a smaller fridge. It's hard to get things out sometimes because its so high. I have the 45qt. THe smaller one would have worked great with the freezer kit too. Glad to see your wife just ran off with the car!:D

For fuel i am having my tank + 4 scepter jerry cans and 1 scepter water container. it works out to be about the minimum for fuel requirements.

i'll be pulling out my t-case and rebuilding it. Then I can test it all out on June 14th, to go wheeling with my local cruiser shop.:bounce:

It's home brew, but after the $$$ and time installing I think I would have bought one. The water doesn't get at hot as I would like so I am going to do some messing around with restrictor washers in the shower head (an adj garden sprayer) I was able to take very cold ground water and get it luke warm today with the engine at idle. We can always recirculate the water once to get it hot. I had the pump sucking through 50 of garden hose out of a scepter water can and pushing through 25' to the shower head. Sorry for the bad picture, not all the hoses where connected yet, but you get the idea.

We are also concerned about the height of the 45q engel. I ordered a hinge kit from www.wagongear.com to have the lid open from the side instead of the end. Our plan is to have it behind the passenger seat.

Bob thanks for the e-mail list. As for fuel, I have a diesel, so unless Mark chimes in and tells us he is bring diesel ,I will carry 5 cans of fuel and 1 of water. I have a SFWDA run on 12-15 June, so when I get back I am going to rebuild front axle and change all fluids and filters , install the snorkle and overload springs then start the load out.

Yup, we are also running a diesel. I was searching and found a rig that had a scepter can stored under the rig in place of the spare tire. Not a bad idea. I should be able to rig up something undr there to hold two cans, maybe three.

Hauling a full size spare and two cans on the back, doesn't leave a lot of room for extra fuel, and I don't want it inside.

Is the 6.2 thisrty while wheeling? The 12H-T is nothing like my 3B, it likes its fuel.

I use less than the 2F's, on a hard day of wheeling I will use 5 Gal. My son's FJ-62 daily driver with a 6.2L gets 20-22 mpg.

Hi all... This post is just to let you know that I am back in touch and wil be answering all questionbs and concerns shortly...
I have been completely out of touch for a bit.... Out of town for a bit also during the last while... have been back and just barely keeping the shop up and going. Weeding through hundreds of emails tonight. And looking at Mud as well.

The short story/answer for right this minute is that, yes the Trek is on... Will be waiting for you as you arrive and there are no changes on that front... let me look over what has been asked/discussed in this thread and I will respond after I have.

Mark...

I'm trying to rate myself on mechanical ability, wilderness experience, and difficulty of trails. I'm higher than a 1 but less than a 10 obviously. How do you rate yourself Mark?

Digging way back here... I'll try to touch on everything that I may have misd or overlooked in this thread at all....

Th point of the question wa more to see how you felt about yourself and to give me a very general feel of your abilities.

A self rating of a 1 or a 10 will tell me mor about th person... ;)

a self rating between 2 and 9 tells more about the abilities :)

It was not an important qustion anyway... jut to get a feel of folks a little

Mark...

Well, its either that or use parachute cord...:grinpimp:

I'll have to se if people are still saying nice things about me by the time I get to the end of this thread.. probably more along the lines *&@$ can't even use a keyboard and we're heading into the field with him!?!?

But anyway... Bruce braids a mean stretch of cord himself... When you are 75 miles from the roads and you are using a chunk of firewood and some 55 cord for suspension... so long as it works... you are happy ;)

Mark...
