For those who have removed their air bags and replaced it with Metaltech or something else, do you do any heavy load towing? Three weeks ago, I got 60 bales of hay on a 20ft flat bed, maybe 5500-6000lbs and the load leveling system worked great on the 2015 GX460, so how would a GX470 without the air system handle this? Can the replacement coil springs handle the load or is there a way to put an overload system on also?

You can put in coils with airbags within them for load handling. Many have.

yeah i have the firestone airbags in mine. its kinda a crude set up, as i also have the air lift 1000 spacer puck in the coil as well to take up the space of the lift. i also run the exact same set up in my 97 4runner and it has worked wonders.

thanks guys

thanks, I am saving these pages for later if needed. I like both, but I think I like the idea of the Ride Rite with the compressor bolted up someplace and air to air up tires. one compressor, double uses.
Had something like it on my 2000 Tacoma Pickup to carry stuff.

this is what iv got on mine ... you can hook them up to the original air system but is kinda tricky (have to trick the height sensor) or just run a line straight to the bag and fill them when you need them like most do on a pickup ... thats what ill do ... your bump stop needs to be trimmed a bit and some of the lower hardware needs to be mounted a lil different

How to you hook it up to the original compressor?
If you can disconnect the original system from the vehicle with out breaking it ... one of the "airlift" (brand name) hose connectors fits the original air line and you can splice that into the "airlift" bag so that the factory pump will fill the bags to level out the vehicle ... being that if your doing a conversion your probly also lifting the vehicle so you will have to trick the height sensor to make it think your still at factory height ... I bought this set up used from Kevin at SSS and thats how he had it set up before going with long travel ... only problem he found was when off road having air in the bags made the ride stiffer than he would have liked ... so i opted not to do that plus its easier to run direct lines to level the vehicle with an air pump ... oh and the air line can run down through the center hole of the bump stop ....hope this helps

I'm resurrecting this thread because I am thinking of using 4Runner springs combined with airlift bags connected to the factory compressor and AHC at stock height. My hope is to maintain a compliant ride but still have the auto leveling function when loaded. Has anyone tried this?
