At what point do you know when your suspension has reached the end of the road? does it take something braking? my susp. has 233k miles..does feel as smooth as it used to...our 85 fj60 with 99k miles sucks up bumps better than the 80 now....thanks

I believe you've answered your own question.

Ummmmm, if my 80 rode anything like my 85 FJ60 I just sold, I would be very displeased. Do you have the original shocks and springs on the 80? 233k is alot of miles on original shocks, and they are CHEAP to replace from Toyota if it turns out that what you need .... but I would guess you are going to need new springs as well. Maybe you could pick up some lower mileage stock springs from someone going to OME, you could get em CHEAP if not for free. Just an idea, and I think most would say shell out the $$ and get OME.

I got an oe pair from a buddy doing ome. His rig was a few years newer and 135k less miles. Helped a ton. I then built spacers for the springs to level out and lift a tad. Works for now, at least until money comes in to buy the good stuff.

Agree with B. Changed my shocks and springs at about 130K. Noticed an immediate improvement in ride and handling. Went with Rancho 9000 shocks and OME medium duty springs.

I just installed the OME lift from Slee and even the wife noticed the difference. You can get this without the lift. OME is pricey and I am sure C-Dan can set you up with some OEM Toyota shocks, should be fairly in-expensive.

Well if i am going to go to the trouble of replacing my suspension i'd rather save a little and just do OME.

ch,
If you are not planning on wheeling a lot or If you go with the stock height ome coils the oem shocks from dan will work quite well. I had the oem on mine withe the 2+ inch omes for about a year and no complaints. It will limit your downward travel by a few inches but If you are not wheeling it that much it can save you some serious cash.

I've got OEM (not OME) springs for all 4s w/ only 20k miles on them. Wish SOMEONE needed them.

Still have them? :bounce:
