Hey out there, I've been looking to replace the stock 16x8 alloys on my 92 FJ80 but am not having any luck finding a wheel that fits. I want to replace with the same size if at all possible because I don't plan on ever running tires bigger than 33". Does anyone know of a wheel manufacturer that makes a black replacement rim that matches stock size specs? Steel or alloy rims would work.

If you like your stock wheels you could just paint them black or look into having them powder coated- it might be cheaper than buying new wheels.

just paint them black.

Thanks for all the quick replys:

Just painting alloys is a chip off nightmare (i've done it before) and the powdercoating option is far more expensive than the current price of a new steel wheel.

FZJFillmore: you're right about the 15x7s, the guy I bought it from switched them out for the 16x8s. He also switched out the original "TOYOTA" front grill for the one with the Toyota symbol, but don't get me started about that! Thankfully, the rest is completely stock...for now. I looked at the RockCrawlers you mentioned, but dont see one that seems to match the specs of the original 16x8.

alkaline747trio: Summit Racing has a very close match, but theirs are not hub-centric where OE Toyota rims are (at least that is what toyota told me)

The specs i'm trying to match are: 16x8, 6x5.5 bolt circle, 5in. backspace, +12.00mm offset, and that damn hub centric. Does anyone know if I can skip any of these? Does the center bore need to match exactly as well?

IronYuppy: American Racing has advised that they do not suggest their wheels for any 80 series LC.

Keep the info coming.....Justin

Honestly, mine have not chipped at all, except scrapped where i hit them on rocks while wheelin'. But as far as road debris chips, i have none. Been painted for about 2 months.

plus rattle can is easy to touch up :)

I painted my rims. About $20 or so at Home Depot.

A heck of a lot cheaper than $200 for new rims or close to that for the powder coating.

And like others have said, Rattle can is super easy touch up.

;)

The best paint for rims I've painted in the past is Trem-Clad semi-gloss black, but I never see it anymore. Looks just like powder-coat. I think it's been discontinued.

FWIW I've been running the AR 767 with 4" BS for years on my 91. You have the opportunity to run 2 sets of tires. I have the OEM 15x7 alloys for street tires and the 15x8 767 blackspokes for the woods. They were about $35-40. When they get beat I replace them.

If you check out my sig you can see the blackies I just got for my 80. I picked them up at Les Schwab, I THINK they were Ultra's, but I can check my invoice if you think they might work for you. I've been really happy with them, they take the rocks pretty well.

They have these 16x8 just about at every Discount Tire place for $65 each.

I have 16x8 US Wheel Modular 94 series wheels on my 80 and they fit like a charm, they had them in an all black version that I sometimes wish I had gone with.

Prepping the aluminum will really help reduce chips and peeling.

1) Use good degreaser

2) Use aluminum surface etching product; POR-15's Metal Ready for example. Here's a link to that: http://www.por15.com/s.nl/it.A/id.1266/.f?sc=2&category=139

3) Apply strontium chromate primer, good quality 2 part. I like AlumaProtect; mainly because it's readily available at my local westmarine...

4) Apply marine outdrive paint. It's formulated to take the abuse of running through salt water at 80mph. It's really used to patch the factory powder coat on stearn drives and outboards.

A somewhat anal approach I know, but I don't drive a Jeep...
