On once in a lifetime safari in Africa with the wife. She was curious if we would be in any land cruisers and her curiosity was confirmed.

Over the last week we have ridden in the RHD 70 series (don’t beat me up not knowing which model) chugging away for hundreds of miles. Once we got out of Narobi we have seen probably 100:1 Land cruisers to land rovers. Out of maybe 15 we have past a third of the rovers were broke down, all very old models.

Yesterday we passed one the LCs that looked to have sheared a u bolt in back and another with hood up, outside of that I would say for sure they have proven themselves in Kenya and the Serengeti.

Sure wish I could bring one home!

Gracias Onur, haven’t learned my Swahili yet!

Modified they are indeed. Watching poor guy trying to compress the suspension in back with rig jacked up from bumper to put u bolt in did not look fun!! All this on the significantly rough roads in Serengeti with no pavement for hundred miles either way!

Of course I was thinking “what would Onur do!”

I asked one driver about the model and he said these were modified pickups, for longer wheelbase. So I'd say these are 79 series.

My back yard growing up. Lived in Kenya for 19 years. Cruisers got us where no others could. That was weekends for us. No need for “devices” to keep us entertained.

Jon, look at the door jambs on the driver's or passenger's side and see if there's a VIN plate. In the middle east 70's it's on the driver's side below the door latch.
I looked briefly on them couple days ago and didn’t see a vin plate, now I’m different rigs but will do little more recon tomorrow.
