Not really related to your question, but my 22yr old daughter just had the battery die 2 hours ago on her 1998 Avalon. Battery was 3 years old. $215. Man batteries are getting expensive and not lasting.

I use the Kirkland group 27 marine start/deep cycle batteries from (canadian) costco or similar from a company here called Batteries Plus, 2 in the 74 and 2 in the 81.

I swap them out at the 5 or 6 year mark as preventative maintenance. Very rare that the set doesn't make it that far, even before I added solar to both trucks.

Lots of good points made here, and mine will echo most. C-tek charger has been a great way to get max life out of batteries for me. I recently retired a 12 year old Optima Yellow top, which had been used in many different trucks, but was afforded a long life by frequent conjugal visits with the c-tek.

My experience is that with extreme temps (high and low) and vibrations (not in a 1hz though right?), lead acid batteries have a short life cycle, and like to give us rusty battery trays and corroded terminals the whole time they are in service... So I only run AGM's now. My HZJ77 has two giant AGM's underhood for 24v, and a single AGM in the back for 12v house power. My UZJ100 has one big AGM. No offgassing, no electrolyte loss, and a long service life.

During winter I usually move the ctek around to whatever rig is going to be sitting longer than a few days, just to give it some magic juice... (on the 24v I do one at a time).

all batteries in the US are manufactured by two companies.......and resold under diff brands

pretty much all lead production in the US is offshore now due to regulatory mandates so......

new batteries are not as well made as ones were just 5 years ago

I had a pair in a truck last 11 years

The pair in my 77 I just replaced were dated 2023

4 Yr old battery in my 4R is showing signs of giving up the ghost

I give my esperienze . 2 Yellow optima 75ah very well used AND drained lasted 14 years .they still had some juice left.
But always hooked un with solar panel on the roof of the car.
Good maintenace of batteries will pay off in THE long end .

anyone have a good link or can point me in a good direction to purchase dual batteries for my HZJ77. havnt replaced it since it was imported and would really like to not have to pay the international shipping fees associated. thanks in advance.

Not sure what you mean about international shipping. If you're in San Diego area it looks like there are about 50 BatteriesPlus locations. So many damn locations! Part of why I went with their batteries.

I'm a 2 time (2x) X2Power battery owner for the 77. They've been great until earlier this week (temps dropped here). High side battery volts weren't holding over a couple days. It's possible I have a parasitic drain gremlin/goblin. But Batteries Plus warrantied one of the two suckas with no question yesterday. It was right around 3 years old. Happy with those fellas currently.

I'd also like to mention that this forum manifests most the sh1t that goes wrong on my junk. I read some thread.... then boom. I have a real and/or imagined issue related to what I read. Had no battery issues but was poking through the Power Systems forum for project ideas last week... thus my current battery drama. Thanks peoples.

Sorry buddy. we'll try not to share anymore of our issues. Lol.

@carnahanar are you 24 volts or 12 volts? Either way,
get matching batts that will fit and have the terminals on the correct side.

If you are trying to put duals in where you originally had one, that's another story...
(Edited for accuracy.)

But I live for other peoples issues. Rock>Hard Place.

Good advise on the matching set. Also would be nice if replacement batteries fit in the OEM hold-downs better. The X2's do not.

No longer have a matching set after the warranty replacement myself. Tried to talk them into replacing both. Young fella argued it wouldn't matter. I disagreed but no dice so guess I'm rolling the dice. If I post that my batteries are hammered in a few months don't read it.

Awesome thanks for the info! Yes its a 24v so i need two. I heard that they might have to be different sizes? 27/27F grouping from what I saw or do you recommend differently? also how did you fit them in the OEM hold downs?

Mine are the group 24 units (SLI24AGMDP) but verify for your rig. I thought the 27 was too long for the OEM battery tray and I am dealing with an intercooler pipe and the width is less on the 24s. I still had to clearance a lil nubbin.

If you squint the hold-downs still work. The battery just doesn't sit in the L part of the bracket. Hard to explain... and my 77 batteries are currently out while I do some upgrades to my 24v>12V step down system or I'd snap a 1000-word-picture.

Oh. Yeah. @Sundowner posted some good stuff on how he modified the brackets....

Found it. Lotsa pictures and it looks like he used the group 27 X2s.

Unfortunately most of the US batteries are not available in the Philippines and IF they are….they have a ridiculous mark up.
In the 7 years that I have owned the ‘93 PZJ75; I have had three batteries.
The first one was a Panasonic that came with the truck; which died to old age.
The second battery was a Motolite Gold that died due to a bad starter (which I had rebuilt).
The third battery which is a Motolite Gold which I have had for 2 years and is going strong.
The Motolite Gold is advertised as Tropicalized for hot weather use.

I have two group 27 x2 batteries in OEM battery trays. My rig is a 1990 RHD so i have two batteries on the left side. I am 12v so the two batteries are in parallel with an isolator.

I don't have part numbers handy but I would bet that all narrow nose 70s use group 27 batteries in the OEM trays regardless of 12 vs 24v or LHD vs RHD.

I've been running them since about 2018 or so. I live in a mild climate. The X2 isn't cheap but I appreciate the longevity / reliability.

I miss the days of the cheap Sears Diehard Platinum AGM ....
