Hola, ya’ll. I’m Shawn. I hope this is ok to do here: I need some advice on this beauty I picked up recently here in Venezuela. She will be on a boat soon, to the US, and offered for sale with legal title, probably in Florida. Basically I’m putting out feelers to see the current value. I am originally from Athens, GA and have been living in Venezuela for the last few years. When I left there were none in the US due to the age restrictions, so I have never even seen one there. Any advice is appreciated.
1990 FJ70 LandCruiser LX model - Left Hand Drive – 3F Motor – 135,xxx kilometers 84,xxx miles
I purchased this FJ from a gentleman who held the title for his boss who left the country, so technically a two owner vehicle but in actuality a one owner truck. I have original sales invoice from Toyota, the manual, and the original three keys. The vehicle was garage kept and honestly the owner must have been a boring guy because it is in exquisite condition. The interior is perfect – seats – carpet – gauge cluster – ceiling are all in perfect condition. The body is perfectly straight with original paint. All gaps are correct. The undercarriage is impeccable with zero rust. The hubs are manual and original. Everything is original except for the radiator and the alternator – these were commonly changed due to reliabilty of the originals. The radiator is aluminum and the alternator is Cheverolet.
The Details: There are few chips in the paint(photos below) I am not going to repair them so the purchaser can see all the detail. I don’t want to try and hide anything. The hinge in the center console was broken and is being replaced with steel. The fender flares are being repainted because someone shot them with high gloss black at some point and frankly they looked stupid – repainting them the original satin black. There are also three different tires brands on this beast. Tires are very hard to come by here so it will be shipped as is. They are all the same size and in good shape but different.
Thanks for your time and if anyone want additional photos let me know and I will get them.

Shawn

Nice looking rig. Does it have AC and heat? Lockers?

Lockers no - AC yes(factory) - Heat was never connected. It is set up but blocked from the factory as heat is not really needed here - although we do get snow believe it or not. I need to confirm the radiator is in the cabin. If so, easy connection. If you look on the back, left side of valve cover you will see the factory plugs

Hard to estimate the real value , in my experience the market for swb 7x models is very soft. I have seen swb 7x models advertised from below 10k to around 30k , ok the 30k model belonged to a Mud member and was a build truck no expense spared so I guess for one like this around 15k seems a reasonable number to me. No rust is a great plus but no removable top or a lwb are things that bring the value down. Not sure what carb is on this one but I have heard people having a hard time finding a new carb or parts for the cruisers that came from down South, they use specific parts there as you can tell this truck has a Dana rear axle build for Toyota instead of a normal Toyota axle, finding parts for these Dana’s is fun guaranteed ;)

Only one way to find the tru value is listing it and see what it goes for.

Thanks for the advice, Joe - Everyone around here seems to hold you in high esteem so definitely I value your ideas. Gracias

Left Hand Drive +1
AC +1
Color +1
Condition +1

3F -1
Hardtop -1

That’s the way most buyers will rank this truck.

To me, I like the hard top and I like the gas motor.

Posting in here to see where this one goes. I really like it.

Thanks for the input. I agree about the hardtop. I’ve spent time in Colombia and this hardtop beats their 73 top hands down. The 3F is a beast but not fast by any means. She maintained 120 kph at 3000 rpms from Caracas to my house. But 3000 is pretty high for this motor. Gracias

Yeah. It’s real cool. I’ve been eyeballing the successor to this model woh the 1FZ motor.

The 1993. The first and only one I have seen imported was a low mile 42,000 solid red. The asking price was $42,000

I like it. A lot.

@BlueMarblePA- if you can’t find a 40 you want...

I’ve been looking for a 93 but can’t find one in decent shape. I found one yesterday in ok shape but the motor was done. Super cheap though.

@beno, @joekatana - are the spring perches the same- i.e. can you just drop in a standard 70 series rear axle? That would solve the Dana problem.

The 70 series carb 3F seems to be a hard sell in the US. Sweet cruiser. Maybe it belongs in the museum in Utah. :)

Oh and my FJ73 3F also has a GM alternator too. Must be a South American thing.

Thanks. I wonder it it’s not popular because it’s got a lot of low end but screams at the high end. For the highway it’s definitely not a great motor, but for the mountains it’s great.

Also, how’s the annual budget looking there in the Museum:D:D:D
