Has anyone added and extra accessory like an air pump, alternator or hydraulic pump to the passengers side of a US spec 80? I own a 97 FZJ80 with a hydraulic winch and I'd like to add either a dedicated hydraulic pump or an additional power steering pump (the later if possible as it would be much cheaper if I can obtain what I need to run the winch from a bone yard.) Can the pump be driven off the same belt as the AC compressor? I know people in the past have used the pulley designed for the SC to run air compressors but, this isn't cheap money. I see that the head has two large drilled and tapped holes and am thinking these would be plenty strong as a mounting point. Along with something off the water pump even if I have to add longer studs. I'm sure the brakets can be bent with enough  and time, my main concern is how to drive the pump. Anyone ever go down this road? If not I will be sure to post a complete how-to to save others the frustration.

David, I think the trick way to do this would place a gear driven dedicated hydraulic pump in place of the stock PS pump. The required power to drive a real hydraulic pump to power your winch for an extended period puts it past the ability of an accessory belt. I have often considered going this route, but my dual battery powered Superwinch Husky has yet to leave me stranded.

You could take a feed off the power steering pump that is already on the vehicle to power the winch that is what some poeple do over here. Another way which was sujested to me was to have it mounted on some sort of electo clutch like the air condition pump uses so that it is only driven on demand.

Some Suburu cars use an electric hydraulic pump for their PS...wonder how that would withstand the winch use....

Northern tools has a v belt driven hydraulic pump that should be able to power a hyd winch. It has a clutch that can be switched on/off from the cab. FYI

Woody,

Do you know which Subaru's use an electric hydraluic pump for the power steering? I wouldn't mind picking up one of those from a bone yard.

Thanks!

I saw the Northern tool pump and was wondering if this is the ticket. I know it is pricey, hence my reason for wanting to rig an additional PS pump above the AC pump. I need a max of 1500 psi and around 4 GPM. I like Northerns pump as it is clutch operated just like an AC. Only pumping when I need it to. I was hoping to run a pulley and mounting bracket similiar to that used to mount an Endless Air OBA from down under. Is this the same pulley as used with the SC? I should just buy the pump from Northern and start fabricating.
