I would like to see if we have any interest in the following ideas and please mention any you may have.

Gem mining
Cars & Coffee
Charity car shows
Parades
Poker Run
Blue ridge parkway ride
Tailgating at sporting events
Zoo trip
Lazy 5 Ranch (would love this photo op, can not get out of vehicles but I think we could make do and maybe ask if they would send an employee to take photos for us.)

I went to Reed Gold Mine in Midland a few years ago. Pretty cool afternoon trip. They've got a film they play, you can pan for gold, walk through a mine shaft. Pretty low key but still interesting. Kids would love it. 1.5hrs from GSO. 40 minutes from CLT.

We went to Emerald Hollow Mine last year with the kids. It was supposed to be a morning thing and then to Bull Hole for some swimming. At 7pm it was too late for the swimming. Haha Kids want to go back BAD!!

Good idea to open this discussion.

Gem mining = no real interest
Cars & Coffee = really kind of done with these.
Charity car shows = Same as C&C
Parades = Eh.
Poker Run = Takes a LOT to organize but this (or a rally) would be fun.
Blue ridge parkway ride = This would be nice. Include camping.
Tailgating at sporting events = Not a sports guy.
Zoo trip = Huh?
Lazy 5 Ranch = I doubt the critters are gonna like the exhaust note of my small block.

In terms of "ranking" I believe I would vote for BRP #1.

I really miss the Moonshine Rally they used to do in Elkin. Natalie and I won the event one year.

Gem mining - no interest
Cars & Coffee - ad-hoc only - if you've never been to one, it's mostly posers and shallow people showing off what they bought (at least the ones around Raleigh are), not my cup of tea - like rice, I'm over it
Charity car shows - yes, have loose plans to do one at FAT this year - need to follow up with Phil to see if we're doing it
Parades - no interest
Poker Run - no clue what this is
Blue ridge parkway ride - YES - Fall timeframe
Tailgating at sporting events - no interest
Zoo trip - no interest
Lazy 5 Ranch - no interest

Sooo true. I saw a blown silver 57 Chevy Bel Air pull in and park at the Cars & Coffee in Cary. After parking several attendees were asking him questions about his ride. The guy had no clue what he had bought and his answer to almost every question was I don't know. He walked away quickly to avoid any more questions.

One event that Sean and I have discussed is Freeman Park at Carolina beach. For those of us in Raleigh, it's very convenient to drive straight down I40 to Carolina beach, buy a pass and drive out on the sand. Club members that are further west might not want to make a 4 to 5 hour trip to the beach. Freeman park has also put a lot of restrictions in place. Overnight camping requires a reserved camping spot ($8 a night) with a 2 vehicle limit per spot. Some of the other visitors at Freeman park can get a bit wild after drinking and cause problems. Personally, I've always had fun.

Gem mining - No interest
Cars & Coffee- No interest
Charity car shows- No interest
Parades- No interest
Poker Run- Maybe mix this with BRP ride
Blue ridge parkway ride- Cool, mix with camping perhaps for those that drive a couple three hours or more to get there. Not hard to mix with Hurricane Creek either.
Tailgating at sporting events- No interest
Zoo trip- No interest
Lazy 5 Ranch- No interest

Heather and I have talked about this for a couple years now. A few of us ended up in Maggie Valley on one trip for fuel I believe. Might be a cool thing to tie in with a BRP ride or even a HC trip as well.

Gem mining- No interest
Cars & Coffee-no
Charity car shows-no
Parades-no
Poker Run-maybe if it was for a good cause
Blue ridge parkway ride-yes mixed with camping along the way. We could even start or end up at our place. We are 1 hr from Roanoke Visitor Center.
Tailgating at sporting events- NO
Zoo trip- maybe
Lazy 5 Ranch-Yes. I think it could be a fun family cruiser trip. Mary & I went their for our first date.

First and foremost - you guys are a bunch of grumpy old men... jesus.

Gem mining - Only because my kids are older I'm gonna say no.
Cars & Coffee - Yes because although I get why the other people don't like it - I enjoy seeing friends/coworkers/acquaintances that are car fanatics, but not Land Cruiser fanatics.
Charity car shows - Yes
Parades - Yes
Poker Run - Yes
Blue ridge parkway ride - Yes
Tailgating at sporting events - Yes. We've taken Biscuit to a few Wake Forest games to tailgate.
Zoo trip - Maybe. Been there a lot already - and kids are older....
Lazy 5 Ranch - Yes. But only If monkeys can climb on the vehicle and we can bring bananas

What about a state(s) wide HAMOM at someone's house? It seems like every HAMOM we have here in the RTP area always runs late with the amount of work we have to do. We could bring the grill and have some refreshments. It will be something like the barn but with work on the trucks instead of the trails.

Awesome idea! @QsLC75 had one at his farm in Charlotte a few years back. Hardest part of doing something like that is finding a venue with enough space. I've got enough space to work on maybe 4 trucks at once, more than that would be pushing it.

Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau are dead but Ann-Margaret is still alive and very pretty. What are you trying to say?

How about a golfing day? I play maybe once a year but still enjoy it. I'm down for any BRP ride. Throw in a side of Sierra Nevada and I'm there.

Gem mining - loved our trip to Emerald hollow mine. Sluicing and digging in the creek was enjoyable. I really enjoy rocks and gems though.

Cars & Coffee - Seems a difference crowd but I do like to look. Maybe some cruise in's would be more suited for what we enjoy but I'm open to it.

Charity car shows - I'm down

Parades - Christmas parades can be fun and while I've seen Jeeps and various hot rods I've never seen anything as cool as LC's rolling down.

Poker Run - Never been but my motorcycle friends love them.

Blue ridge parkway ride - yessir and maybe breakfast at Hillbilly hideaway to start it off. fall colors would be nice but any warmer weather I'm game.

Tailgating at sporting events - absolutely a good time regardless of the game. Friends, grilling, cornhole...what more can you ask for.

Zoo trip - Did this a few years back with the club and had a blast...Right up until Stacy Strong dropped that rubber snake around my neck...I'm still traumatized.

Lazy 5 Ranch - I think this would be cool to see cruisers interacting with the wild animals.

Gem mining Did that with my wife and daughter a few times. I stumbled upon the bags of "gems", and one promptly dumped on the garage floor. Depending on the place, Possibly, but probably not. Theres are more "real" mines near hiddenite (basically you roam the creekbed looking for hiddenite and other stuff, a place in asheville, that you go out into a huge field and dig for sapphires and real stones, and the fairy stone park in southern virginia by philpot dam.
Cars & Coffee Saturday mornings are my sailing race days. When it rains, we dont sail...but they also dont do C&C
Charity car shows See Saturdays above
Parades Rush hour traffic with snarky pedestrians on the side of the road mocking you, saying HEY NICE JEEP!!!
Poker Run Given how fuel efficient our vehicles are, we would need stages about 2 or 3 miles long before a refueling stop would be required. Although I could be pursuaded for something like this, in a rally format like Rice mentioned.
Blue ridge parkway ride BRP ride with camping somewhere would be cool. Maybe have the sw peeps start heading north from Ashville, and the north/east peeps start south from Fancy Gap. Find parking and camping in the middle for a Jamboree type thing for a night of fun
Tailgating at sporting events See usual Saturday thing...stick and ball sports just arent my thing baby (said in best austin powers voice)
Zoo trip : After a 1st grade field trip 15 + years ago, it will be a cold day in hell before my wife voluntarily subjects herself to another reenactment of the Baatan Death March to see animals at the zoo. The little hellions she had to chaperone were the tipping point. Driving down 220, she breaks out in a cold sweat from north of Asheboro, to having heart palpatations by the time we get to hwy 64 exit....she finally mellows out about the rest area south of Asheboro.
Lazy 5 Ranch (would love this photo op, can not get out of vehicles but I think we could make do and maybe ask if they would send an employee to take photos for us.) We did the lazy 5 years ago with neighbors. Its fun if you have kids, and they want to be scared nearly to death by getting headbutted by a giraffe, and if you have a penchant for enjoying getting licked by a yak.....(@JohnVee , @jamesurq ....not that theres anything wrong with that).
