So I ordered the wrong motor, my mechanic told me to buy any Toyota 4.7L motor as they are all the same. So I found one on ebay for $800 inc shipping so I bought it. It has 100k miles on it same as the motor I blew with my supercharger ECU being improperly programmed. Mechanic had to replace alot of parts between motors, he charged me $1300 for the install.

The car feels much faster now, I love the power delivery. Much smoother than when I had my supercharger on it. It feels faster as it has nicer torque delivery. I can't tell you how much I love my LX now.

Mechanic is advising me not to put the supercharger on it.

Skeptical. Pics?

wow. cool . whats the motor's specs (hp/tq)

I definitely wouldn't put the supercharger back on! But I will take off your hand so it not taking up valuable garage space:)

IIRC, the 4.7L Tundras were the primary reason the SC was discontinued for that engine.

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it something about cast vs forged connecting rods?

You are correct.

Thanks benc. The older I get, the less I remember that I forgot.

I have considered doing the same thing when my UZJ gives up the ghost (no idea when that might be). The later model 4.7l had the VVTL-i and put out about another 35hp. If you can grab one from a wrecked tundra for less than a grand and another 1300 for install, seems like a great way to go.

But then you'd need to add a VVTi computer, harness, etc, etc.

Wow, seems cheap for a working engine swap, good job. I figure there will be enough rebuilds by the time mine needs one.

It feels much more than 35 HP, more comparable to when I had the supercharger on - maybe it has more torque? I think the engine was from a 2001 Tundra. Not sure about the VVTL-i. My mechanic complained it was a b!#%^ to install.

Well, I hope to get at least another 50k out my current engine. After that, I will probably drop a "built" UZJ engine in. Lots of trips between here and there though. :)

My wife's 2003 Seqouia had a lot more torque than my 2001 LX. I thought it was because of the 2WD vs 4x4.

Is there a better chip for the 2001?

I agree that the sequoia and tundra both feel snappier and more powerful than the same year land cruiser. I own a 2000 year cruiser and frequently get to drive sequoia and tundra from that Era as I am an assistant service manager at a busy Yota dealer here in nj. I'm guessing it's the weight difference and maybe that those lack full time 4 wheel drive

You replaced the original motor for a reason. It is very possible that the motor was tired or at least less severely damaged long before it actually "blew". I suspect that is the majority of the difference you feel. The part time 4wd or just 2wd (versus full time 4wd losses), coupled with the weight reduction is likely what the other posters feel with their tundra experiences. Then again there are plenty of instances where the same motor across several car platforms is tuned differently for various reasons. But that is usually confined to the computer tune or intake/exhaust configurations and likely not something that will swap over with an engine swap.

I have a 2002 100 series and a 2003 tundra. Both on 285/75s. The tundra has 3.90 gears and the 100 has 4.30s but the tundra is a lot faster. It has JBA headers and 3 inch exhaust, which made a small difference.
