I bought 4 transmission solenoids from Cobra Transmission. They said they were for the A440F AND A442F or whatever the FZJ80 has haha. I tore my tranny apart and found 1 cylindrical solenoid that I have no idea how to remove too. No videos or write ups on it that I could find. I wanted to verify if part: 85420-60010 is what I need and how to go about changing it out? I made a post on my symptoms a while back but here's what's been happening (and it's gotten much worse over time) Hoping to the good lord this can fix it -

"My 92 80 series land cruiser when I accelerate shortly after starting the vehicle (still warming up), I'll hit like a wall on the pedal and even when I increase pressure there's more resistance but the RPMs and speed don't change... Until eventually it revs up a ton and then the transmission won't change gears unless I really ham on it and then the rest of the drive the transmission behaves poorly. When I give it time to warm up, it doesn't do this. Also putting Lucas transmission fix helped a ton but not entirely. I've already had a shop flush the system and change the pan filter, which helped for a little bit and then stopped helping. Wondering if I need to have solenoids replaced, look at TPS or shift sensor, or just accept that my trans is on its way to the grave?"

What year make and model is your truck and what spec US, Europe, Australia? If you look on your driver door there should be a data/vin plate that lists your transmission model.

Replacing the solenoids is a pretty straightforward job. Just watch the video and you should be good to go.

Thanks man. I actually used that video to start the job but I have a different transmission. I actually bought the parts he recommended in that video because the website said it would work with my A440F but that's not the case... there are some puzzling differences for me here

It's a 92 80 series USA spec. I'll have to check the door tho for the tranny I didn't know that!

The only solenoid in the A440F (91/92 FJ80) is for cruise control unlocking of the torque converter in certain conditions. In reality it does nothing of any consequence and will not effect shifting as it is 100% hydraulic.

The setting of the throttle kick down cable is what controls fluid pressure and will have a large affect on shifting.
Follow the FSM specifications for setting the transmission throttle cable before messing around with other things.

Thank you Jon! I'll put the pan and (new) fluid back in and head to the cable adjustment. God I hope my trans isn't cooked

So here's what the cable looks like... The little metal cylinder on the wire should be much closer to the orange stop no? I'm at max tightness

and it's still SUPER loose. How do i get it to retract?

your kick down cable needs adjustment, its way off!! Should only be 1-2mm from the stop.
Also if your tranny fluid isn't burn, i doubt you overheated it. A440F is fully hydraulic, so very sensitive to fluid level....

The fluid looked great and I had a shop do the flush and refill so level should be okay. I started a new thread for the kickdown stuff

@bencho ,

In the future please don't start a new thread. Your problem hasn't changed, what has changed is the possible solution. By including everything in one thread, the next guy can more easily follow the progression of what you tried and what others have suggested and the associated results.

That looks like the cable is disconnected at the transmission end. There's no way it should be that loose.

That makes sense sorry! I will note that for the future
