the picture in the fourth set the shows the exhaust over the rear axle, also shows an unprimed and unpainted underside on the lip of the quarter......saying they are not original panels. combined with that large hole by the seat, i would say this tub has had some rust repair.
the 79-83s were made with a lighter gauge sheet metal than the 73-78s, which in were also made lighter than 6x-72's.
the 79-83s rot bad.

i'm not really seeing anything in these that scares me.

Interesting info Brian. Thank you. Do you think 12k is still too high given the condition?

To me the first picture tells the whole truth. This is a used and not loved truck. If you don't do basic front axle maintenance then you're probably not doing anything.

The scale on the frame will just continue unless you do a frame off restoration. Again if you're looking for your "forever" truck, I'd keep looking. Get on searchtempest.com and find one in the dry southwest area.

Congrats!

What is first on your mod list?

Thanks South. Shipping is about 800 to get a 40 to the East coast. Maybe it does make sense to keep hunting.

Allan it's not a 100% go just yet. But thank you! I will keep you posted.

This is what this cruiser looked like before Rino

It is out there...Be patient it will appear.. What are you looking for? One ready to go for over $10,000++++ or one that is going to take some work and greasy hands but is basically solid? As Red Green says "If the women don't find you handsome they should at least find you handy..." Of course this does not apply to me... but Yes, being handy can be the ticket to the right Cruiser for the righteous price.. They are out there.

Hey hey Cap!

I'm hunting every night after work. Ideally I'd like to find one that doesn't need a full frame off resto. Not that it wouldn't be fun to save an old girl, but at this point I want to enjoy exploring with her rather than working on her. I'm fine if the truck has moderate issues that need to be addressed (Que patience/experience from Italian motorcycle ownership-ha!). I have this week off so I'm really hoping to find her, buy a plane/bus ticket, and bring her home! I'll tell you what, it's VERY interesting to see what people do to these rigs. A lot of head scratching and wondering if the owner's are one short of a six pack.

Im not sure if this helps your search but last Saturday a pretty female told me she likes my car and a blond in a jeep waved at me! And its not me trust me!!
Most everyones one short of a 6 pack bro.
Good luck and Happy Holidays!

Both 40's i owned had the front tow hitch. Not all have it. I cant tell you how handy they are. It was a must have for my new one.

Well that's never a bad thing Dutch. Don't sell yourself short though, most women don't just wave at things with wheels (except for the blonde...she may have in fact been waving directly at your wheels).

Well I may (knock on a stump) have found her. It's a southern example that has been completely gone through. The hard top and doors will need paint, but other than that she is original and sound. I took a couple of days off to drive 15 hours south to check her out. If all goes well, I'll have her shipped back up. Fingers crossed!

Photo-document your trip for posterity. Or for prosperity if it adds value when you sell it 30 years.

Happy @micruz60? :flipoff2:

Too funny Micruz! I'm already feeling it.

Well the seller has just sent me these pictures as I'm driving down. I knew the quarters were replaced, but the I'm wondering if the view from the inside is par the course or just sloppy work?

Also, he's gone and welded caps on the 2 mounting holes for the hard top. I'm thinking that should be easy enough to drill out though. Should I turn around??? Ha!

This is much better than the other ones. All the OEM threaded holes are there in the tub rails, however it's missing the holes for the tire carrier. How much $$?
