Hey all, I am new here, but have a 1990 FJ62 that has a water leak after about 10 minuets of driving in rain.

The water was coming in right at the seam in the headliner, See picture.

I paid 500 bucks :( to have the windshield replaced and resealed... but still leaked... EFFFFFFFFF.

So then,
I removed the handle to see if it was coming in through the screws of the handle, but i don't think it is because it still gets wet at the seam... Any help?

Also I am including photos of the rain gutter because it could potentially be the issue.

Thoughts?

Please help:)!

These windshields for the 60 Series wagons are infamously difficult
to seal correctly.

I have the same issue coming from the same place...right at the seam
of the headliner/pillar liner.

I also wonder if the rain gutter could be part of it.

No advice other than the seal on the windshield could have been
done improperly.

BTW, pics didn't post for me.

Common area for water intrusion, from the cracked sealant along the roof gutter to the A pillar.
Combine that with the tricky windshield gasket.... You need to pinpoint the source.

I don't think its the windshield, I went to a land cruiser specific windshield guy...

I guess, could the interior of the A pillar have a bunch of rust in it?

But even so, where is the water initially coming in?

There is a hole in the gutter on top of the A pillar. It is roughly where A pillar meets the roof line.

Water can get inside at that seem from either windshield rubber or the hole at top of the A pillar.

The surface rust on the A pillar indicates something hidden...

I cleared out all the old caulk in the gutter, sandblasted to remove rust, primered and painted, new sealant and more paint.

Condensation at the interior of the roof / gutter seam will cause rust.
Do you have ponding water at the drivers side floorboard?

Right where the rail starts it’s turn down at the APillar, there is a factory joint that the sealer has prolly peeled out of... the roof pan rolls out along most of the gutter, and the joint is at the outer edge of the gutter. At the point of the Apillar, the split is at the crown side of the gutter, if that makes sense. When I resealed my gutters, I could not find the smoking gun, then I did! I am certain that is where the pillar seam leak comes from. Hth

Lambcrusher,

Do you have any pictures or factory drawings of this joint at the A pillar ??????

Thanks Jason

Yes, I would love to see what the internal and external schematics for the A pillar look like.

My FJ62 was leaking from the same place as yours and my left knee would get dripped on every time it rained.

After resealing my rain gutters, no more leak!

Nice! Where in Portland are you? Id love to chat more about how you did the re seal of the rain gutters.

So where is the other end of this hole? I'm getting some water pooling on both sides of floors, but its much less than before. Just had the windshield replaced with new OE gasket and Sika P2G sealer on both, the glass/gasket and gasket/body lip like recommended by FSM. I only get a little bit of water now on heavy down pours.

I'm hoping its not the drip rail/gutters, nor do I get water INSIDE the A-pillars. I see remnants of drops kind of behind the pedals but more towards the left corner.

The hole is in the sheet metal of the body near the top of the A pillar. Water can also potentially leak into the body through the roof seam. Before I redid my gutters, the felt around the upper left corner of the windshield would get wet and drips of water would collect on the hand hold.

Get a ladder and check the condition of your rain gutter sealant. If it looks cracked and worn out, it probably needs to be replaced.

It can also leak on to floor due to clogged drains in the cowl area. See this thread.

I just wanted to seal a leak... (front fender removal, please help)
