Hey guys brand new to the forum but I just recently picked up this fj62 which is in pretty good shape, for the past two weeks it has been garaged and hasn’t leaked but today I left it out in the sun and it just started to pool gas underneath the gas cap. So I thought I over filled it and drove for about 20 miles, came back parked and bam, started to leak again. I notice though that I can see gas coming out just beneath the gas neck area as shown in the photo. I’ve been reading up and the fuel separator and charcoal canister. If anyone has info on this that would be great thanks!

First thing I learned was not to fill up past the first click...also what shape is your gas cap? I replaced mine and it really helped.

I replaced my gas cap. with a new one and bent out the tab slightly on the vehicle side. Also your evap canister (charcoal canister) is plugged so you can squirt some brake cleaner or whatever solvent down there and blow it with compressed air to free up the check valve. They clog on every single vehicle just a matter of time. And it won't be the last time it clogs either. I have done mine multiple times. When the evap canister is clogged it will leak out the gas cap under heat every time. If you do this simple maintenance it won't leak again. Some people replace the charcoal canister completely with a Delco one that seems to work. Mine has leaked on and off for 37 years as you can see the permanent gas overflow markings on my original paint in the pic. Its taken out my painted on pinstriping.
