This poor Troopy wasn't getting much love on auction last year, so I ponied up, bid and became the owner of this Blue Beauty in Feb of 2023. It was almost exactly as presented which made me happy. Starts right up, drives great, everything works and no rust or filler on body panels. Small bit of rust on passenger floorboards but easily addressed.
It was originally owned by the Chilean Army so I've found a few creative field repairs but nothing serious. It does have heat and defrost so that's a bonus. As you can see it gets kinda cold where I live.
I noticed It was struggling to get to temp and after I taught my son to drive a manual transmission in the Troopy, noticed it got a little too hot. Figured the thermostat needed replacing. I was half right! It didn't have a thermostat.
So that out of the way, my voltage regulator went bad and replaced that. Oh, and a new battery too.
The old top wasn't long for this world so ordered a new one and decided tan would make it look great.
Been changing fluids and futzing around with stuff since I've owned it. But it's set up to fish and camp in. I just put food in the fridge and head to the mountains almost every weekend. I have it so the back converts the benches to a bed and I sleep like a baby.
I love this Troopy so much. I really bought it for me to enjoy but it seems my favorite thing is actually the number of folks who stop me and want to talk and the number of waves and smiles I get. A nice young lady even gave me a heart sign as she was driving by in her 60 Series LC.
I'll post up other things I've accomplished on the truck with the generous help and postings of Mud members here.
