In case you are wondering, a 100 series is not the best for delivering pizza.
Yes you arrive like you're on safari, but using $25 in gas each time I work is somewhat annoying.

Carry on.

4.5 years of ownership.
Hasn't been exactly how I romanticized it would be.
But, is what it is.

Cruiser hasn't really seen any actions since about May or June.
Had to jump it the last few times i've needed to move it. Replacement muffler has been sitting in the cargo hold since then.

Life is just super busy- we have 5 children 1-7, two new car payments (but that 30mpg and 4matic grip is amazing).

Some day...over the rainbow....

You althought this being updated was going to have some sort of resurrection?

Ha.

Almost a month later, and it still hasn't moved.

To keep it tech related, I did see a rust repair youtube video since every time my kids get in and out the rear quarter kick panels threaten them with tetanus.
That could be a good hands on project if I have an afternoon with my boys before it gets too cold (its northern VA, won't be freezing until end of January).

Man, I admire your dedication. I just read the entire thread and I would have filled 16 swear jars, working through all the little things that you did. Good job, boss.

Appreciate the kind words. I have found that I have a higher tolerance for rust and problems than most here, and that is OK.
When I paned for a cruiser before I got it life was different- fewer kids, less life and financial set backs. Really thought I would be using it a lot more than I am. But that is OK. It doesn't cost me much to keep, and highest offer I got was I think carmax sight unseen for $1,300. Can't replace it for that and that money won't go very far, so i'd rather it sit. Plus, it is obviously paid for, and I learned the hard way a few times over never get rid of a car that is paid for if it runs and is able to be driven short term/in a pinch becuase you never know.

TO keep it tech related, I had a used tire installed on the front passenger side back on June 5th or 6th due to belts showing on the outer sidewall. That was the tire you saw previously in 2020 that I got on tundra steelies.

So at some point, all new front end pieces need to be ordered....

Carry on.

Pig in the pasture.

why dont you put it in the pig pen lol ?
Because with all the other financial obligations I currently have, if I were to bring home more rusty pigs/piglets to constitute a pen, my wife would put me in the doghouse.....

.....may just do that at this point 😬

Now for the outro.

After back and forth, I decided to sell my Cruiser- money was needed to deal with bills and maybe a move, and since I have a wife and five children it was time to be responsible and prioritize.

I would estimate it would be about $7k-$10k to get it really into the condition I wanted, and that is with me doing almost all the work (Ironman Lift, body rust repair, front end/steering rack overhaul, interior detail, AC fix, roof rack install, brakes, other preventative/routine maintenance, et. al) except for frame welding, which I would have done by Lance at Iron Pig Offroad in Fredericksburg, VA, new tires from a local tire place and a new windscreen installed.
For that price I could theoretically find an already well sorted out in better shape and less rust 100.

Aside from moving it around the back yard/work area, I hadn't driven it in almost seven months (June 7th actually, coming back from Lake Anna Virginia- had driven it from Bealeton, VA to Manassas, VA to Fairfax, Va back to Manassas and hten down to Lake Anna. It was almost 100 degrees that day in the sun. Had my youngest daughter who was 9 mos at the time in it for part of the drive and she wasn't happy with the windows down the whole time even with a bottle full of ice water).

I was emotionally over it. Yeah we had a couple fun rides in it with the kids, but Carvana offered me $2,700 and it was in the following condition:
-Inspection was almost three years expired
-Windshield had a big crack
-Missing the passenger front turn signal assembly
-Acres of rust all over frame and body
-Exhaust had a bunch of holes in it
-High beams stopped working on my drive to Carvana
-The radio randomly made a loud screeching sound in tandem with the RPMs.

Bought it with 294,xxx and sold it with just about 316,980 or so.
I paid $3k for it in Feb 2020 and was in it maybe $2k over the time I owned it.

$1k truck at best, at least that is what I would pay for one in the same condition so I took the money and waddled, running isn't a thing at the moment.

Had it almost five years exactly, and was all in it maybe $5k.

That being said, I have been scouring FBMP like a fiend with a roll of stolen copper wire for some other old rusty contraption to take its place (diesel Mercedes? Or a not so rusty Land Rover of some type or 1st Tundra) however my wife made it Caribbean blue water clear that jalopies do not follow me home until bills are caught up.

Why does she have to be right?

'til the next time...

What's funny is despite my wife saying no more jalopies... about two weeks after I sold this, I picked up a 99 mercedes wagon that I currently am chasing an oil leak on to then flip, and then a month after that a 97 mercedes e300d that is in limp mode likely from needing an alternator and the glow plugs replaced (have the glowplugs and some other things for it already)

And our pilot sat so long it needs a valve cover gasket, front brake caliper, windshield and body work from deer strike. I have the brakes and some front end pieces waiting to go on.

ANd the engine in her q7 took a dump. Its currently being evaluated by the warranty company because I do not have $xx,xxx.xx to replace it

The tires on my 2018 c class all need replaced due to wear or leaks.

Jalopies are not a car, they are a way of life...
