I am installing a stock A/C from a 78 or 79 FJ55 into a 79 FJ55. I have found the location of all the connectors but two. There is a solid green, and a black with a red stripe that I can not find out where they go. They are long enough that they go all the way over to the fuse panel, but I don't see anywhere over there where they can go. If anyone knows where these two wires go, please let me know

Thanks in advance
Scott

they attach to the two flat spade terminals that are acutally on the back of the fuse panel. I cant remeber which color goes on which terminal, but thats where they go.

I was thinking this was where they might have went, but the year of 55 I have must have done the wiring different. If you have some time could you tell me where they attached. Thanks for you help.

If yours is a later 79, there might be a plug in the wiring harness that they would go to, provided it was the same vintage A/C unit. I know most years went to the fuse block, but I have seen a late 79 where there was a plug behind the radio area they plugged into, and didnt run to the fuse panel???

Mine is a 2/79, but I took the fuse panel down and there is no place to plug the wires into. I believe you are right about another plug, I believe it may be behind the wiper motor. I think it is a 8 or so wire plug, I am going to check this out today. I really just thought about cheating and splicing into the correct wires at the fuse panel, but I can not find any wiring information about the A/C in a 55.

Thanks
Scott

Scott,

Check the fuse block again. When you unscrew it from the dash there will be two male spade plugs on the back side (probably covered w/ black tubing or the like for insulation). One is hot all the time the other is hot from the ignition switch. If these are in fact the connections you need for the A/C it should be easy to see which lead needs to be switched from the ignition.

FWIW SOR does have a manual for the A/C, may be worth the $

Hope this helps.

I have the Sor ac book it shows the red/black to the battery and the green to the ignition side

Great, thanks. I will be able to at least splice into the correct wires if I can not find the pins on the back of the fuse panel.

thanks

79 A/C wiring

What I found out was that in 79 integrated the A/C wiring into the wiring harness. There is a clip just behind the wiper motor that had the black/red wire, a green wire, a white and black wire, black and white wire, and a solid black wire. These wires were exactly the wires that were with the unit.

It looks like in the eariler years they passed some of the wires though the firewall, then attached the others into the fuse block.

Hey Scott this is Don down in Tucson. Can't really help you with the a/c but I'm glad you and your dad made it back to SLC hopefully with out incident?

Hey Don, good to hear from you. Everyting actually went really well. The only close call we had was rolling into SLC about 4AM. There were 2 people on a 3 lane Interstate, and one on the on ramp. The guy on the on ramp decided to get onto the interstate about 40 mph and didn't yield. I ended up hitting the brakes hard to avoid the collision. The third guy on the interstate happened to be in the center lane, which made it impossible for me to move out of the way. Once the guy saw the cruiser shoot toward the center lane from me hitting the brakes he moved to the fast lane pretty quickly. Anyway, everything seemed to come together and we avoided the accident. The trip was nice, we stopped by the north rim of the Grand Canyon. I had never been there and now I can't wait to get back. The other funny thing I just noticed the other day is we towed that pig back without having a fill plug in the rear axle(this was something I didn't even think about). I don't know how the thing didn't sieze, but again we got lucky and it didn't. The more I look into the Cruiser the better it looks to me. I can see some areas that will need a little attention, but much cleaner than what I have. The only thing I regret is that I should have taken the green front fender. I started looking at the white one and noticed that there will be quite a bit of work compared to the other one. It looked so much better the day we picked it up, but I guess it was also raining cats and dogs that day. Anyway, thanks again for everything. The lights worked great as well as the towbar. Keep posting you projects, and I will do the same. I may actually get the tub of my 40 painted in a couple of weeks, which is great news. I really want to finish the 40 so I can start the pig.

Later
Scott
