Hopefully not this weekend as I'll be "remote" and unplugged for the holiday weekend. No Internet or cell where I'm going :)
dont worry @geanes , Ill sign you up for the Alpine Loop 4 days in a row, hey, what are friends for.

This will be my first HIH. Can you walk me through the logistics of the trail rides?

There will be an app where you sign up for a trail each day it’s very easy. These selections will be made in the next couple of weeks when they “open up” the app for everyone to make selections. Sounds like the guys have some new runs potentially available, but regardless the selection is plentiful.

Once there, each trail run is assigned a meeting time and location (somewhere around town in Silverton) where you will meet up with the trail leader. Then you all line up and head out following your leader. Keep in mind you could drive across Silverton in about 2 minutes so none of the meeting spots are far away!

Are the trail days Thursday through Sunday doing the six listed rides in four days?
We do not run all the trails every day, its a mix and match. We have a new trail option, this year, as well, which will be awesome for a first timer (or anyone really).

It will make more sense you see the schedule on the scheduling app, called Sched. It is actually pretty slick. For your first time, don't worry, all the trails will blow your mind, so I would not get too caught up in what trails you do, except for Poughkeepsie, which is more suited for someone looking to wheel a little harder (sliders, rear locker, better tires highly recommended).

New trail option!? Curiosity sparked!

I am clearly an unfashionable idiot - but what is the difference between these hats? Is the "Flex Fit" like a stretchy fitted hat and the "Flex Fit Snapback" more like an old-school baseball cap with the plastic clasp, but with a flat brim?

Exactly. You nailed the descriptions.

@geanes the question that REALLY matters... what everyone wants to know.... are you bringing the dingo this year? We want to see that pup!

Oh, Sydney is absolutely coming. He's my trail-buddy! This will be his 4th trip to Colorado.

Comms question... I'm a big ham guy but I see on this event CB is required. I have no desire to install such useless equipment into my vehicle :) so if I borrow a handheld CB for this event am I set? I'm assuming its just vehicle to vehicle when we are all together on a run? Thanks!

get a $40 uniden CB (wire in a power port plug) and $30 magnetic antenna. tune it after you set it up. I only use CB at HIH and usually take it out when I get home.

Do you think you really need the mag mount antenna? I’m hoping to just be able to use the handheld by itself.

CBs have terrible range (especially in these mountains where there is a TON of iron ore). Handhelds don't really work well at all. I used a $19 magnetic antenna from WalMart last year and it was great. My Midland can convert to handheld. When it was handheld, I could barely communicate with the rigs directly in front or in back of me. I couldn't hear anything from the trail leader. The antenna made a HUGE difference.
