The main reason I strayed away from duals was I had heard lots of horror stories about big power and big tires killing them. I'm pretty sane, but I've put the boot to the floor out of frustration before, and 250hp and tq seemed a bit much for duals, especially when you think about how much torque you're putting on input shaft #2.
From my logic, not using anything other then beer math, running 4th gear through the lowrange set should be less torque applied to it, therefore less stress on it. I can definitely see how gear noise gets old, didn't think about that. If this ends up being a massive PITA I have the option of either going to dual 2.28's or keep my 4.7 with a 2.28I'm just telling you my personal experience. I thought I could use the higher trans gears like you mentioned. I "read somewhere" that's not a great idea. Something about the higher gears not being up to the task strength wise. IDK if it's true but ,it was a pain in the ass doing it anyway and the gears were screaming when I did. It got old fast.
