The Vin tag on the door of my Land Cruiser says it was built in March of 1994. What month did Toyota stop production of the 1994 Land Cruisers made for the American market, and start making the 1995 model. Was it in August, or September of 1994, or was it a different month?

I've always understood that they did not pre-build ahead of the model year. In other words an 80 built in 1994 is a '94 period. But I can't recall where I read that. @cruiserdan aka, by default and occupation, resident historian, might have some insight.

Typically the next model year starts in September. That said, my truck was built in 8/1995 and it is considered and titled as a 1996. It is also the "chrome package" which was only produced in 1996.

Generally speaking the automotive industry does model-year changes in the early fall, often September-ish. That being said vehicles can be released at any time.
Land Cruiser model-year changes have mosty been in the fall, but not always. Two notable years that come to mind immediately are 1975 and 1995. In both cases the new model came out in January.

Well, I have both a 94 and a 95, so I'll put my two cents in here. My 94 Is a November 1994 production date model and the 95 is January 1995. @cruiserdan wins again!

It seems based on the information CDan, and Malleus provided. It looks like the 1994 Land Cruiser had a longer than usual model year run, starting in September/October 1993, ending in November/December 1994. Plus base on the information provided above by BILT4ME, who's model year 1996 made in August 1995. It seems that the model year 1995 had a very short production run, January 1995, to July/August 1995.

12-94 is the final 1994 model month.

This reminds me, my 9/92 FZJ80 turns 25 y/o in a couple weeks!

My 93 80 was also built in September 1992. I am the original owner. The last 5 digits are 14647. What are your last 5 digits?

Last 5 digits are 13357. Does that tell anything? Wish I could say I'm the original owner, but I was 11, ha.

Yours is older than mine by 1,290 units.

1290 FZJ80 units or 1290 80 body style units combining all engine varieties? That seems like a lot of FZJs in one month! Were they all made in the same facility too?

My '91 has a last five of 07213, so it would be the 7,213th 80 produced? Or how does that work?

What is the number before the 0?

Mine is 0013357

Dan, maybe everyone knows this but in general (for let's say the 94 year) how many did Toyota make?

My 1994 is 62804, built in January 1994.

From what I've found its a sequential number rather than a date code.

Now we need to start ANOTHER thread! "Who has the LOWEST VIN number?"
