@jdogg Pics are not showing up - any chance of reviving them?

For anyone else, not sure but it seems silly to have different setups for different years - does anyone know if they are the same for a 95?

I have a 95 and I just turned mine off. It should be under your driver's seat. Take a paper clip or knife and just move the little dial. That way if you ever want or feel the need to use it, it's easy to turn on. If a red blinking light drains the battery, me thinks there are other underlying issues.

Thanks, I definitely know where it is but mine is not operational and I also have that parasitic drain. I've been through several things to locate the drain and have removed a few small items that are not necessary, but after reading a few threads, I thought maybe the alarm system might be the culprit. SO, I am thinking removing it is best, especially since I don't use it and I'm not sure that just turning it off will do the trick? This of course if I am understanding you correctly.

I am also thinking of installing a kill-switch as a precaution and a interim fix for the battery draw (if of course the alarm isn't the issue). I can always install another alarm later if needed, but right now, I am not too worried about it.

I also need to purchase a new battery first to see if any of this works.

Sorry, its been a year + that ive been active her and sold my cruiser. Going to send you a pm with the details on how to get the pics quicker than i get get them uploaded again.

I copied the photos when I asked about them last year.

To make this easier in the future, I have them saved in Google Drive in the link below if anyone else wants them too.
Alarm Removal.zip

That doesn't always work, so:

Just did this today on my new 93. Literally took 25 min thanks to this guide. Shout out to the OP and @Dazrin for sharing the pics.

all 80's in the US equipped with the optional factory alarm system were TVSS not the TDSE system. THIS IS THE THREAD!!!!! This is how you get rid of the factory alarm system! THANK YOU!

This thread should be a sticky. It would be even better if the original pics were still in place. But it wasn't difficult to go back and forth. Probably took an extra 5 minutes.

I was able to figure out how to disarm instead of remove.
-depress valet side of switch while turning on engine. After engine starts, stop pressing and turn off engine.
Alarm is now off.
Still locks and unlocks using remote and/or key. Can open doors without alarm going off!!!!
Of course, if you want it armed, just do the same procedure just on the "horn" side.
Cheers!!!!

Yea but after a while some of ours stopped responding to that. At that point they just need to be removed entirely.

Mine wouldn't respond to it. The only way was to turn the ignition to start.

I also didn't have key fobs so it was all a moot point. It needed to go in the trash.

My 92 didn't have an alarm because I ordered it as a poverty pack when I bought it. I was 16 and didn't get the alarm, roof rack, running boards, sun roof, or cruise control. At the time I was disappointed. Now i am ecstatic! :)

Hey there, first post on this site. I have the same unpredictable alarm system as the others on my '95 LC. Would you mind reposting the link for how you get rid of the factory alarm system? Thanks.

i'm not 100% sure what that red wire of yours is... looks like it might be an afterthought someone put in there, i'd trace it back to either side and see where it goes. And no, you technically don't have to undo the crimps, but there maybe be live power there, and you see in the pics what those crimps do to the wires.. you've come this far, whats another 5 minutes of dealing with the crimps IMO.

If you find out the source of the wire i'd love to know to update this thread.

I had the same thing. Instead of two crimps under the steering column there was one. The other was crimped in to a plug behind the ecu in the kick panel.

Despite the pics being gone, this is the best thread for removal of the alarm. I read 4 different threads last night and went with this one. It took about an hour and some minor contortions. This last week my alarm has started to randomly go off. I've had this truck 14 years, never had a fob and never used the alarm. I never considered removing it until this week. Done deal.

Just did this, thanks @jdogg for the instructions. Also found the picture above useful along with the last picture in the zip file located earlier in the thread (shows the alarm harness from the service manual).

Ever since I got my '93 its been having alarm issues. I ended up taking the horn relay out so it would stop going off, and wired the two horns to the antenna up/down switches :) Happy to have my horn back and no more parasitic drain! And no more having to turn the key twice pretty much every time I get in.

One thing that it took me a minute to understand, but once I got it I had a MUCH easier time, is that the alarm harness is essentially in the MIDDLE of the factory harness. It splits the harness so as to provide an interrupter to the system when the alarm activates. So once the harness it out, all the factory plugs just plug back into each other and the alarm is completely removed. I know thats pretty much understood for most people but it took my tired brain a minute to figure that out...

This is long and pic heavy, so i apologize, but not really. There are so many FAQ's on here that i have used i thought I'd take my time and document this to help others.

Reason i did this was something is draining my battery, not sure if the stupid blinky light was enough, but now that its out, time will tell if i solved the problem.. (i kind of doubt it)

The system in question is :

Step 1. Disconnect battery . Unplug system brainbox. Remove the plastic kick panel, the dead pedal, and i took out the drivers seat to make things easier and to give me space to work. Pull up the carpet to reveal the alarm harness and where it flows into the factory harness.

Follow harness cutting the zipties that hold all the alarm wiring to the factory wiring.

Step 2. Pull out the wiring from the little hole behind the kick panel. You will find a 4pin, and an 8pin connector.

420055_4970226051117_1205138735_n.jpg

Unplug the 8 pin connectors. it will be obvious which go to the alarm and which sides are the factoy and will stay. the wires are not that long, don't pull to hard.

Put the 2 ends together that are the factory side.
Next, the 4pin connector. Do the same. unplug the alarm side, and plug back together the factory side.

Step 2. Locate the 11pin connector a little further back twards the firewall in that same kickpanel.

Again, unplug the alarm side, and plug back together the factory side.

pics not showing up. Please upload pics again.

Trying to piece this back together since I found it helpful. Basically this entire harness was inserted in between the connectors on the factory vehicle harness. Everywhere this alarm harness plugs in to the vehicle harness, the alarm harness can be unplugged on both ends, and then simply connect the vehicle harness connectors without the alarm harness in the middle. I started from under the drivers seat and worked my way forward, which I think is a little easier.

Thanks to @jdogg for starting this, most of these pics are his that I'm re-uploading and editing his original post a little.

The system in question looks something like this under the driver's seat (my 1994 had one that looks identical but with Toyota PN 08190-00850, FCC ID: BABMW-8480, PRODUCT NO: MNW-8480)
15.jpg

Step 1. Disconnect battery . Unplug system brainbox. Remove the plastic kick panel, the dead pedal, and i took out the drivers seat to make things easier and to give me space to work (I skipped removing the driver seat myself without any issues).

(I only had two 4 pin connectors.)

Unplug the 8 pin connectors. it will be obvious which go to the alarm and which sides are the factory and will stay. the wires are not that long, don't pull to hard.

Put the 2 ends together that are the factory side.

Step 2. Locate the 11pin (22 pin?) connector a little further back towards the firewall in that same kickpanel.
7.webp

Again, unplug the alarm side, and plug back together the factory side.

6.webp

to be continued

Moving on to underneath the dash. Remove the lower plastic.

Step 3. you will find this on top of the heater tube, under the steering column,, you'll have to pull out the 14pin connector (white) on the right hand side of the column.

9.webp

Just as before. Unplug the alarm side, and plug back in the factory side (wait till after the next step to do this)

Step 5. Unplug the 2 black connectors that hook under the steering column Don't pull to hard these are very short. You will see in the pic where the 2 crimps are into the factory wiring. These must be undone, and the wire must be taped back up.
8.webp

10.webp

Again, these are the crimps.. you have to unsnap them, pull out the metal tab then you can simply pull them off. Also in the pic you can see the 14pin connector still unplugged. this will give you a tad more working room.

After you have removed the crimps and fixed the wires plug the 2 connectors back in.

i tape things in green where i have messed with them just so i can blame myself in the future if something goes wrong.. and it also makes it obvious what has been done.

Don't forget to connect the 14pin connector now!

...to be continued.....

Step 5... moving right along... Still under the dash, look to the only wires that are still connecting the alarm to the factory stuff...

Behind the fuse panel is the connector that runs the blinking light that says Toyota security on it in the dash. You can remove the whole panel (I just undid the plug and left the panel on the dash.)
23.jpg

Step 6.
locate the last wires... they are a little hidden up behind the heating duct .
they go to this: the starter cut-out relay.
20.jpg

Simply unbolt the replay and pull it down out of the way. you could probably unplug this as well, but you already have your screwdriver handy so just loosen the screw and get it out of the way. Bonus is to use this as a good ground for wiring in the future.

That's it folk, you're DONE.. well, you still have to put you dash back together, put your seat back in, and go turn the key. Starts right up!! with NO alarm left!

Draw back is that the power door locks ON THE FOB do NOT work. You just removed the brains for the fob.
My fob was broken, and the battery was dead anyways so this is win win for me.

so in conclusion..
these are the parts you'll end up with.. shown again to clear up any questions..

brain and connector :

The starter cut-out relay:

The blinky light harness:

Optional step 7.. If you want total removal, you can always pull off the trim panel between the doors and pull out the sensor wire thing... (recomended if you are in this deep, doesn't add much time.)
Clean underseat area...

That's it. I hope the re-uploading pictures helps. I'm glad to be done with this and the tutorial helped me enough to try and resurrect this with pictures.
