All done. 4/93

For some reason I didn’t have the black connections , (or I was confused) because I didn’t find the black connections in Post #37 step 5.

I did have two wires that were in line tapped to two wires under the steering column. One went to the horn wire, couldn’t see where the other was was in line tapped into. I just cut them short and left the in line taps in place. Anyway, got it all out. Everyone started and works fine. Thank you for the write up.

I had a couple people ask for access to the zip file of pictures today and somehow messed it up giving access. If that was you, please ask again if the link below doesn't work:
Code:

It says everyone has access but ???

Thanks to everyone who contributed to the write up.

Adding some more pictures of my removal. My TVSS was not under the seat but instead mounted in the front left foot area in the driver's area. The installer also wrapped many of the connectors in plastic bags causing condensation to collect. One of the non-TVSS connectors was wrapped as well and it had quite a bit of water in the bag with mold. One of the wires is broken too.

For me, the most difficult part was reconnecting the factory harness behind the steering wheel / ignition. Otherwise, removing the seat and pushing it to the back helped make room for working on my back on the floor. I cut and wrapped the two wires that were spliced and left it like that. I will go back with heat shrink before I reassemble everything.

FWIW, the TVSS was backfeeding current into my door open circuit. It was causing the instrument panel light bulb to stay dimly lit all the time when the ignition was running. I can only assume it was some voltage lower than normal that caused it to be dim.

Steering column below

Does anyone happen to have the pics for this thread still? My alarm is acting up and I want to just get rid of it. Thanks!
Me too, for my 2001 - 100 series (which I hope will be similar)

Bumping this thread because the op's step-by-step is excellent. Thank you!

I've just started the process of pulling the Toyota alarm from my wife's '94. Dealing with an absolute mess. I'll post up more pics as I start the process.

Boy oh boy, what a mess.

Got most of the factory alarm system pulled. But there are still of a number of places where it is spliced into different places.

Here is the second to last connector (under the steering wheel). None of the wires coming from it are OEM...

The wires I'm holding ran to the connector in the first pic. This mess was screwed up under the dash.

This is the motion sensor (DEI 504c).

The above pic illustrates where the factory alarm remains spliced into additional wire

As does the pic just below

And the final pic illustrates the same

I hooked the battery back up… no dash lights, no crank, no nothing.

Headlights turn on, but no tail or brake
Lights.

This dang truck has fought me every step of the way.

Anybody feel like helping a poor fawker out? lol.

:flipoff2:

Oh man what a mess. When I did mine some years ago it was pretty cake. Took maybe an hour. I don’t have much for advice, just some sympathy.

Thank you! I appreciate it, man.

Well, it would help if I wasn't an idiot. I did not reconnect the plugs to make the circuit. Just ran out to the shop to do that, and the darn thing started right up... lol.

But, there is a TON of mess to clean up in there. I'll take a small victory... lol.

Excellent!

Final report... got it all removed. Pulled the red crimped wire that runs up to the ds corner, and also pulled the green crimped wire under the steering column.

The best thing of all... it starts just as it should now.

What plug(s) do I need to unplug to disable the starter interrupt, BUT keep the keyless entry feature??
I'm not sure about that one. My truck didn't come with any fobs at all... just one mangled key... lol.

Maybe @Godwin will have advice on that.

I can't help with this as on both '97s I've just ripped out the whole security system wiring harness.

Thank you @Godwin .

Mine is all gone too.

Maybe someone who has only partially removed the alarm will post up...

So...

Bump!
