Does anybody have an opinion on doors with vent window VS one piece glass? I was thinking about running my 88 doors with one piece glass.

I do like the mirrors the the 86 has instead of the small black plastic ones that the wind blows out of adjustment all the time. I need to make a decision on the doors.
I like the vents. seems fitting for your environment. more options for air flow vs. widows up with AC on.... Or a set of half doors for the nice weather and full window doors for when it get hot or cold/wet weather trips.

Thanks all for the feedback on the doors and tilt column. The 86 doors are pretty straight and rust free but all the seals and hardware are toast. Driver side glass is broken. Hopefully parts are available. Not ready to fix doors yet anyway. Just trying to get a plan in place.

Hinges are available.
Doorstop is available using 90-95 parts.
Seals outside ... both the door weatherstrip, and the window weatherstrip ... are available.
Inside window weatherstrip is NLA.
Window regulator is available AISIN aftermarket.
Glass? Good luck. Boneyard will be your friend.

@pappy, I have good glass in the door of the other cab. All the rubber on this truck is literally toast from baking in the sun. Anything plastic is just done.

What is the inside window weather-strip? Maybe on the other cab its still good. It's at a friends place about an hour away though.

Got the cab repositioned and up on stands. It's crazy how much sand is still coming out of this thing. After being flushed with water, dried out and blown out, tilted in different positions and even the shop vac. I can probably chip seal my street on my first test drive.

Today I worked on getting the interior prepped for primer and paint. Little by little I'm getting there.

I washed, scrubbed, degreased, scuffed and cleaned again and finally got a couple light coats of epoxy down. Later that evening I applied seam sealer (3M Urethane 08368) I don't want any leaks or rust. Especially up under the dash. There's a LOT to seal up under there. I could actually see light coming through below the cowl.

The next day, (today) I gave it another coat of epoxy. Tomorrow I will spray the dark blue. I'm hoping a quart will do it because that's all I bought. 😬 I'm not doing the floor. Thinking Monstaliner for it. :hmm:

very nice.

Thanks gnob. I agree with you ntsqd about the light color making it easier to see under there. I just don't know how it would look. There's an insulation pad that goes against the firewall. Then the black plastic A/C boxes and ducts. The foot well is visible. I'll have to go look at my 88.

Well I got the interior painted this morning and I THOUGHT it went pretty well.............at first. When I started unmasking and pulling plastic I had a bit of a FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUK!!!!!!!!! moment.

The entire front clip that I had already finished painting......in WHITE, was covered in blue overspray. WTF!!! I draped the entire truck with plastic to the floor and taped off all the openings into the cab???? It was upwind in the booth. How the hell did THAT MUCH overspray get on the entire front clip? It was covered from all angles.

Thankfully I had a box of 300 lint free towels and plenty of acetone, lacquer thinner and alcohol IN the booth with me. The alcohol worked the best at getting it off. Pretty easily fortunately. It's just that it was not only on the horizontal surfaces. This was put on like powder coat. I noticed it was heaviest IN the cowl and I realized it came from the A/C opening down IN the cowl. The ONLY thing I didn't think to mask off.

I worked like a mad man before it dried on for good. It's done and I got lucky getting it cleaned off. Gotta have pics since you had to read my long winded post.

Dam dude you sure you’re going to wheel that🤪
It’s looking really good !
After all the rest of your work it comes as no surprise.

Thanks Broski, I gotta step it up so my wife will ride with me and all you guys with Land Cruisers will let me hang with you. ;)

I'm not going to be able to get the cab completely painted at this time. My window for a paintable temperature is closing fast and I need to fix the dent in the roof and others all over the cab. I have more epoxy primer on the way, as well as some filler and other body supplies. I'm going to keep working on sanding the surface with a DA and HOPEFULLY at least get some epoxy on the rest of the cab. At this point I can at least get the cab on the frame and keep going with my build. My other truck showed 99 degrees outside the other day.

In the fall I will hopefully be able to get back on paint and body stuff. The plastic on the booth is getting shabby and I need to take it down soon so I can get to all my tools.

Ok, so my plan for this weekend is to get the rest of the cab prepped for epoxy. The Aircraft Stripper worked great to get the majority of the paint off but it still isn't ready for paint. I put a nylon brush that I had bought to prep for bed liner on my Makita buffer. It kicks a$$ but man what a workout for my forearms. I'll wipe it all down with Wax & Grease remover and get it all masked off. My primer has been shipped so hopefully the heat stays away a few more days.

It is interesting that it looks like some of body panels were welded together with silicon-bronze filler. Was that you?

I used a hammer and dolly to TRY to work that big dent I put in the roof when it fell off my cherry picker. I actually was able to work it from a long narrow but deep gouge to a bowl shape at least. It's slightly elevated but when I tried to work it down, it oil cans. It pops down or back up but it wont go flat. I'm going to have to try the heat and shrink thing on it.

I'd REALLY like to be able to just get the paint DONE on the cab and move on but I'm feeling rushed because of the summer heat coming on. So I need to get it in primer and get on the body work later in the fall. If I rush, my quality of work will suffer.

@ntsqd, you ain't kidding about no gym needed. I'm getting older and I'm pretty beat up so this is definitely a good work out for me. Almost 3 years now.

The brazing is factory. Nicely done too.

To add, I really hate the way newer vehicles have the big roof seams. Looks terrible. I'm sure it's a cost reduction thing. Just looks bad for style.

Be careful out there. I literally *just* got off the phone with a friend who opened up his wrist with a diamond cut-off wheel. He was cutting off the remainder of an old bracket so that a new one would fit and in his rush to get it done (he has a hard stop date when he won't be able to work on the truck for 6 months) he by-passed all of his normal safety precautions. He missed the serious major stuff, but it's going to be a recovery. And it pulled his hard deadline up to right now.

My second career, I worked in a level 1 trauma center as an X-ray tech. Mainly CT scans but always a couple nights in X-ray as well. I lost count of how many body parts I got to image to see if they were viable for reattachment. 10 years of stuff like that gave me a new perspective on safety and life in general. Thanks for the reminder though. 👍

To add, I'm glad your friend wasn't hurt worse. I hope he recovers quickly.
