I'm wanting to put 35s on my 60 without having to do a spring over and axel cut and turn I have 33x12.50 on it right now. I really don't like how tall the 60s get with spring over. I already have the ome lift on it. Thinking I could put some longer anti inversion shackles and maybe a shackle reversal kit and some wheel spacers so they don't rub on the springs and get it up enough to squeeze 35s. Anybody done 35s with spring under thoughts/opinions.

Consider a 2" body lift. You will hear opinions from people with a religious hatred of this idea, but I'm very happy with mine. It's cheap and relatively easy and I like how it looks. The biggest pain was stretching the fan shroud, which was maybe 8 hours of work, including R&R the radiator.

Or cut the tar out of your fenders...

I have the OME lift on a 60 as well. We tested it out with 35x12.5's but there was some rubbing on the internal wheel well with severe turns.
I went the 33's and IMHO I think they look perfect.
If you're set on 35's, would a thinner tire be workable without other mods? With wheel spacers?
Just thinking out loud here.

3-4 inch suspension lift on the springs....2 inch body lift (both of which I have) with 35's on my truck. Body lift is a non issue to me, with sliders and bumpers..etc you don't even notice it...if if the body gap was noticeable I would not care...but some do. you may need wheel spacers.
I'm running the 17inch version of 35's

Yes I have 4.88's and other stuff too.

I extended the bump stops too, its certainly not a simple swap of tires and wheels. I do have some minor scrub off-road.

I'm in the same boat, do they do 34s? I want an OME lift and shackle reversals, but there is no way in heck I would do any trimming on my girl.

Don't forget there is (IMHO) more to putting on 35s than just a lift. While you can limp along on 33s without regearing (I regeared because I thought it was too gutless), I think it is totally necessary on 35s. Also, the brakes had better be in top notch shape. They ain't that great to begin with.

Would 4.11's be a good highway gear with 3fe/h41 and 35's? Or should I regear to 4:56 or 4:88?

35's need regearing with our low horsepower motors unless you just drive on flat land. Hills will eat you up.

I run 4.88's with 35's and hills are still rough.

A spring over can be done without going tall. Look at Boot4, Kavik, and Cruiserdrew's rides.

Why do you want 35's should be the first question. If you aren't wheeling hard you're paying a lot of money just for looks...

you can fit 35" with longer OME + SR and longer shackles in the rear .. altho I would do some fender trimming just to make it " easy "

I have a 60, so have a 2F instead of a 3FE, but otherwise ran that exact same combo for 5+ years. Tranny was howling, so put in an H55 instead. The combo was fine. My 2F is weak, so I had to go to 3rd on long mtn climbs, but on flatter roads the rpms were right on the mark.

I am SUA, 1.5" body lift, OME and running 35's. I trimmed the inner front fender, otherwise it works great. I do have 1" wheel spacers, not sure how it would work w/out them. I really like this combo. I had 33's, and 35's just plain work better on rougher 4X4 trails. SUA keeps the COG nice and low.

SUA only gives you the axle depth which is like 5" so adding a 3" suspension plus a body lift is basically the same thing but typically with a stiff springs or bad geometry.

The issue is that big tires do not fit in the wheel wells so people are then forced to do tall SUAs and bumpstop the tires from stuffing.

IMO the only way to run any tire is if you can stuff it in the wheel well, so like Mace said plan to do some trimming. It helps if you move the rear axle back an inch or so (what I did).

Kinda the same but bigger ... I did a small SOA and 38's lots of trimming so it can be done... This one on 38 was 22 in at frame and my other 60 with 35's is 24 lol

good lookin rig

Hey guys,

Sorry for the thread dig but figured it would keep all the info together.

I am looking at a HJ61 with a 12HT and a H55f gearbox. I'm planning on fitting an intercooler, 3" exhaust and bumping the boost up to 10psi.

I would like to run 35" tyres as cheaply as possible without wheel spacers (illegal here). I dont mind cutting up the fenders or remounting the suspension as long as it doesn't cost a lot (Will be doing the work myself). The cruiser will pretty much be an off road rig only and will be scrapped in a couple of years when i finish building my FJ40s.

So any tips on how i do this? Will i need to regear or will the H55F/12HT have enough torque?

Cheers,

If you do a spring over you will want to cut and turn the front knuckles to keep your caster angle correct. Some get away without it and deal with the bad wandering on the road.

If you don't plan to get into the rocks often I would stay spring under and chop the fenders. There are threads on here of people who fit 35s sprung under no issue. You can also buy wheels that have different backspacing allowing your tires to move outboard without wheel spacers. I am doing this at the moment. I used to run wheel spacers.

@Elbert

Are those wheels 4Runner or FJCruiser? -- You have to use wheel spacers ?

Thanks.
