what would be a fair price for a 8274 with a bad motor?

You can get a new motor for ~$120 on eBay ;)

Tucker

I saw that but I guess I am a little concerned about the quaility? anyone used or have any feed back on the ebay motors?

They are good quality. DO NOT buy a "warn" replacement motor, you will paying out the nose for the name.

The biggest vendor selling on ebay has over 51,000 positive feedback (plenty on this item).

The first thing you need to know is:

1. The condition of the rest of the winch. It makes no sense to buy a motor if the rest of the winch is trash.

2. Do you have a "keyed" motor or a "splined" motor (20 spline shaft).

The motors are different prices. The newer (stronger) 20 spline is actually cheaper (about $100.00 shipped). If you have a keyed set up...it can be swapped out for a splined motor by purchasing the appropriate clutch gear (about $25.00).

Take a look at the motors offered on ebay. They are heavy duty (good to go), and most have a one year warranty.

Do not give Warn your hard earned money for a product that is no better than that offered on ebay.

Flint.

flint, thanks for the input.

the motor is a keyed shaft.

the overall condition of the winch is really pretty good other than the motor is shot. needs a good cleaning though.

Depends where you are. $115.95 for the motor plus $109.00 shipping to me = $224.95 US = $274.44 CDN + 5% GST = $288.16 + UPS brokerage fees and duty = about $75.00 (from past experience) = $363.16 landed in my hands.

I just stopped at Modern Motors (red letter Warn dealer) on my way home and grabbed one for $330.00.

And I got the Warn name (na na na na naaaaaa! ;p;p)

Not too dissimilar to the $3.00 T-shrt with the $45.00 Harley logo I'm wearing.:hillbilly::hillbilly:

True.

In this case the gentleman is smack dab in the middle of the U.S. (Kansas).

Home of Dorothy, Toto and a bunch-O Jayhawks. :D ;)

So....he's "good to go".

I bought replacement solenoids from this guy. Other than having to rework the mounting a little - they work well and I am happy with them. The same guy that sells on eBay. I called and talked to someone before I purchased.

I have not purchased a motor or know anyone that has. But I personally would call them and check it out before spending 2 or 3 times that amount with Warn.

Yep, only my location prevented me from buying from ebay.

guys, thanks for the input! looks like i will be getting a hold of the ebay seller.

Western motors in the states seems to be the main manufacture. When my 24v one burnt out I called them. I bought a 6 hp motor ( the first 24v one ever) for about 350 canadian shipped to fort big mac. Seems to work good though I havnt pulled it to hard.

Pretty good price for a semi custom. Ah, Fort Mac. That place has like quintupled in size since I was there last.

ebay motor on the way:)

Install pics.

No rush, when you're ready

Sorry for the delay guys:(

the motor shipped fast but as of right now it is still sitting in the box waiting to be installed. I put the winch on the back burner till I get the rest of the 40 back together, plus the hunting seasons are now getting in the way of progress:)

i will post up some pics in the next few weeks.
