Cracked Case - Early 8274

The forward gusset on the main (lower) case cracked. Lower right of the picture…

We are making brace piece, trying to straddle the remaining half of the gusset. We’ll double up with two cap screws, a new one to the rear of the gusset….

The material of the main case doesn’t look weldable.

Cast aluminum might not be very fun to weld but, I've seen a few threads where these have been welded. I have seen bosses welded on for fill and drain ports and brace kits that get welded on between the main case and end plate. Some guy welded in pieces to fix a broken end plate. I haven't personally tried it though.

Good luck with your rebuild though. I'm looking forward to seeing you get it done.
