Have an 8274 question. I FINALLY got my winch wired up, plugged in the remote, and - nothing. My bud and I realized that the solenoids weren't grounding. We tried running a small jumper wire to the main ground wire, and it worked. My question is, do the solenoids ground by the solenoid frame clamping to the motor? This winch was nicely restored when I got it, and the solenoid frame was painted with POR15, so I wonder if that's the problem?
Hope this makes sense...

Yes solenoids groud through their mounting frame.

On pre 2000 year Warn winches... They now have a five wire controller, and the ground for the electrical is switched with the power, and a ground for the circut is not going through the body of the solenoid, like on the older winches.

Good luck!

thanks guys. I'm pretty sure now that the problem is the nice, thick POR 15 paint on the solenoid frame is not allowing it to ground. Tomorrow I'll grind it off the little mounting ears and see if that does it. It seems to work fine with the jumper wire connecting the frame to the motor, but I want it to be right.
