However I don’t think Shotts is saying his truck is the best almighty truck around

I'll let others speak to that... :)

Ill admit that in his first list of pros and cons, not nearly everything was listed but its some what understandable. I mean there are many different things in both trucks that make them "better" however in the end its all about what ur going to use the truck for and what you want out of a truck. Shotts, as expressed before said that hes uses his as a daily driver and also to drive long distances. a 100 is clearly better for these situations. However he also does wheel and for this he can do both quiet high speed driving and low off road crawling. Now for some sacrificing quiet and soft for loud and hard yet perhaps and i say perhaps "more reliable" or "tuffer" then sure.

Yeah, I guess this is the part where we "agree to disagree". I use my 80 as a dd and try to wheel it up to its potential. I think the way my truck behaves in all of these conditions is a "clearly better" optimization when the constraint is I can only be in one truck. I know John has both and sometimes feels torn. I'll bet if his 80 was a little more built, was turbo'd, etc. he might feel a little different. I don't think it's that easy to get 37 inch mt/rs under a 100 but now you can quite literally buy an "off the shelf" lift to do exactly that from Christo and soon MAF. And, yes, I know that you can fit 38's if you do a 3 inch body lift like Podvin. At any rate, what folks think is best is highly dependent on who they are! You'll get my 80 when you pry it from my cold dead hands!

So... You're willing to take your $75K investment into one type of environment that requires mods to prevent damage, but not another? (BIG BOULDERS). If not, then don't claim your truck is God's gift to four-wheeling. I know I don't claim my 80 is.

Man, some of you guys are funny. Ever heard of RISK FACTOR? Compare the risk factor (for truck damage) between these 2 scenarios:

1. Crossing a hood depth river (safe and slow flow with a snorkel on the vehicle) for about 100 feet.

2. Driving a vehicle the size of a 100 through Little Sluice (or whatever trail the picture was?).

Let's be objective, huh?

Some of you also have selective reading ( :) ). Have I ever said a or my 100 is a better off-roader than an or my 80? NEVER! Some of you-all read that the 100's close to the 80 and you go ape**** defending your vehicles. Come on....why ya so threatened?

Good thoughts here, though I don't believe anything could be done to my 80 that would change my mind. The 2 rigs are too different. After a day out in the 80 I can't wait to get out of it. Not the same with the 100. The improvements in design and technology set it apart.
I LUV THE 80 ON THOSE BAD ASS TRAILS. It wants to go and go hard. Can't beat it. But that's one application. For every other application the 100 is simply better, and YES, I HATE TO MENTION IT....but it's even better on those 3.5 rated trails. Why? Because it completes them just as easily, though in more comfort, with more power, with more smoothness, and without hearing it body and frame creak and rattle. Until one puts a 100 through these paces I wouldn't expect them to understand though I would expect them to not dispute it. GUYS: I own equially modified versions and wheel them BOTH!

I'm gonna go get me a dead horse so I can beat it along with everybody else...........:D

Yezzzz. Posts by non-100 owners. BE OBJECTIVE GUYS!!! Do we start a new thread titled:

"Other than EXTREME off-roading, what is better about an 80 over a 100?

Answer? NOTHING! WAIT.....ONE COSTS LESS!!

this is getting tiring...

Junk to the rescue?
(can you believe I just said that???)

yo shotts, I'm curious. How much do you have invested in your 100. all total? What? 40k, minimum depending on whether you bought it brand new or not....my only feeling is if i, or anyone on this board for that matter had in excess of 40k to put into an 80, i think it would far out perform a 100 such as yours.....I could be wrong though, and please dont get me wrong, i think your 100 is awesome and i have tons of respect for you and your vehicles. im drving a stock 80 so i guess i should be talking but it just seems that few people arent bringing up the whole money issue, although with 40-60k in cash i think i'd have a mild built 40, 80, and a stock 100 is the DD. who knows.

Good thinking, BUT, it won't work. I have $75K in the 100 because I bought it new and added all the mods.. That doesn't matter though. You can spend all you want on an 80 and it can never be a 100. It's older technology and it can't be converted. That's like saying you can spend a zillion on a 60 and make it an 80. CAN'T DO IT!

I'm a lucky man to have a 100 like mine. LUCKY! I'm also lucky I can afford my 80. I can do things in that 80 my 100 drools over. But the 80 ain't never gonna be a 100 even if ya drop the V8 into it. BTW: Put $1000 into a factory locked 80 and $2000 into a 100 and the 80 will eat it in the really bad stuff. Ya have to separate extreme off-road from EVERYTHING else (including difficult off-roading).

I've resisted the pull of this black hole up until now, and I hate to have to say anything at all as I am afraid about coming across as an arogant ass but, I can no longer fight the gravitronical pull of nonsense and am spinning in headfirst and must say that I would venture to guess that...

MY 80 WOULD SPANK YOUR 100 IN EVERY PERFORMANCE RELATED CATEGORY ON OR OFF ROAD PERIOD.

There, I got it out, I'm both proud and embarrassed. Keep in mind that i love the stock 100 and the stock 80 and have driven both dutifully. They are both awesome, so whats the point of all this? But if you really need to nasty out which one will whup the other, take your 100 and try to keep up! Ohh, BTW, all that at less than one third the cost!!! Sorry everyone else, that was wrong but it felt good! :D

You're so modest.

Where in the hell is that dead horse............:flipoff2:

Oh, I bought my 80 new and spent all the money on it. Then I started to play with it and spent all the money on it again..............

I'm well north of 50 but please don't mention it to my wife right now as I am in negotiations for subtank funds.......;)
