Wish I'd have done the entire interior to match

image-3047336788.jpg

Probably a little swanky with a leather headliner and all other tan parts, but these are nice. Interior guy agreed, and now has Shane's info. Said he was very surprised at the price and quality for.

A admission of stupidity, and for humor.

Installing dome FullyLitLED interior lights when reinstalling handles and rest, all very straightforward.

I knew all bulbs worked prior to removing headliner. Installed map light housing and light, and worked perfect.

Opened rear door and installed center dome. Nothing. Though a problem with LED so removed, opened front door to get OE, reinstalled it, and it worked. Swapped the LED bulbs, then center dome worked with the second LED.

Close doors and move to the cargo dome, same thing, except now LED nor OE works. This point I figured I'd ired the TLC deity by swapping OE out, so moved on to rest of handles and other stuff, and do hot opened all doors while baking in heat.

After all was done, went to finalize attachment of rear dome, preparing to PM FullyLit my grievance, when it mysteriously worked.

It was then I realized the center illuminates with front door, rear with back doors, and playing musical doors had foiled. Hahaha.

Installed the CDL switch and moved the glass breakage sensor to do.

Any issue with its location? Will be removing power antenna soon, so could put the CDL in its place, if so.

That's where mine is sitting, no issues so far.

It'd have been easier to build new door panels, a sub enclosure, new amps and all than trying to rehabilitate the OE speakers. PITA.

Anyhow, couple questions.

Did find RF P132s locally. Pulled magnet cover, pulled tweeter, and the fit on the rear OE plastic housings fine.

Question is, is it worth it to relocate the tweeter, or toss them in the trash?

Also, does anyone have experience with the IPhone HUs?

I'm wondering if I could dummy the OE to illuminate, extend the harness to a concealed location, then run a simple iPhone plug into the center console?

My #1 worry with the iPhone unit is how quickly it might become obsolete. There are already news stories circulating that the next iPhone will not share accessory cords with its predecessors.

Very valid point.

iPhone's planned obsolescence is sheer brilliance, but I'd not be happy swapping decks as frequently as the POS iPhone I love and depend on. Haha

I'm going to search for a BlueTooth tape deck adapter (haha), or run a cord and be done....until the stereo bug bites.

Damn Chris, talk about progress! I am going to have to swing by this weekend to check this out in person.

Hey, Mo. I was going to text to see how it was going, but I lost all contacts on my iPhone in a recent ICloud debacle.

Saw greenbeast's new 60 in traffic a few days ago, and it's bad ass. Couldn't text him, either.

If you still have my mobile, send text so I can store number again.

(and here I was considering iPhone HU. Haha)

Growing pile of parts, right now, but will be ready for real progress once it's get back in the upper 90s. 112-114 degree weather is killing me.

the Rig is turning out nice!!! you still have that hitch right?

Not anymore, since I just sent, via UPS, to you.

Many apologies for delay, and I wound up sending as "metal", so not boxes.

PMing tracking, for good measure.

Again, my apologies.

This build has to go down as the most progress made in the least amount of time! I don't know how you keep motivated with this awful weather we're having this summer, but good job!

Now

Tulsa Metro was reported to be the hottest in the world today, beating Death Valley and Baghdad.

I know y'all are feeling this too.

Took an hour and a gallon of water to put one door panel back on.

Lou,
You've got skills with the black caulk. Hahaha.

I butchered this one. Had it in the fridge, pulled one strand at a time and still have that crap strewn from one end of the driveway to the other.

Used a 3mil visqueen.

One down, one rear to go. Still hunting front speakers.

Chris,
Hahahaha..... I know... I did mine in the summer too.... It's like tar on a string..... But it works great. You should consider making front door pods that way you can run a nicer speaker and not worry about the depth....... as for a head unit, check with some off the local stereo shops for last year products.... I picked up a Pioneer Nav, Bluetooth with IPod cord for a little under $500.. Retail was $899.. they just want to clear out the old stuff. Funny thing.. It's not like they had them on display with the discounted price.... I just asked them if they had last years model collecting dust and sure enough they had a few and we worked out a price... It never hurts to ask

I can't do it, the heat has kept me out of the garage in the evenings.

I'm sweating (mentally) my amp install because I think I'll need to run it all the way in the back to hide it which means I have a ton of wire to run.

@ Lou.

In the spirit of remaining OEMish and not tempting thieves, plus to finish the never ending, easy interior, going to keep the factory HU, for now. Will tear into the stereo later.

Going to try the speaker ring like yours and secure the grille to it. Want this done, badly, so I can move on.

I hit it about 7-9, and it's still bucking 105-110. Everything takes ten times longer. Ready for a real fall/winter which we've not had in two years.

I new I'd regret not piping the roof before the headliner install, more for COM than amps. It be a good area to run wire through and drop down a pillar. May consider if you haven't already.
