80 series 'ute chops' popular here in Oz but what about the USA etc.?

6x6 is great when you want to climb anything or for deep mud. Weight carrying as well.

Wheel base much over 120” and you will really start to loose turning radius.

I had a 6x6 Pinzgauer but it is a cab over design so retains good turning radius and it didn’t have a massive wheelbase in comparison.

Cheers

Lets add some pics of this one since it is pretty sweet. It is stock 80 wheelbase (112”) but I think with 6” more it would look perfect and work better as a Ute.

That one looks nicely done for sure.

I agree another 6" would give better balance and a more useful tray if your want to carry a load

That looks amazing and at the same time looks like an RC model. Probably just the pictures giving that affect.

Here is a full walk around video. I don’t like it with the wrap and the canopy makes it top heavy off-road.

chopping an 80 and calling it a "[dirty/naughty/tuff/muddy] 40" is peak Aussie humour

They are a bunch of kooks but I like them! 😂🤙

@TRAIL TAILOR sounds good man.
It's along the lines of what I was day dreaming of a few years back l. 4 linked rears, long radius arm front, extended wheel base, auxiliary transmission. Dual cab 6x6.

Most 6x6 use some variation of load sharing springs/bogie axles like a heavy truck.

I think with independently 4 linked axles you can potentially see some crazy driveline angles between rear diffs.

Situations like ramping over a mound or ledge, or dropping into a creek or washout you can have a situation where one rear axle is fully stuffed, the other in full droop. With 15" shock travel, vertical relationship between pinions at the back can change by 15"
Add some articulation and rear steer from independent 4 links that are articulated in opposite directions, I think you need some stout CV joints with a high range of drive line angle, and a long slip yolk.

I used to have a collection of videos and photos of various 6x6 in action. There's some interesting variations.
The ramp over thing brings them undone in a few ways. You can have a situation where you have no load, no traction on one rear axle (both tires). The tru-trac posi might be an Achilles heel in some scenarios.

There was an Aussie 6x6 conversion company that advertised a large amount of rear suspension travel, but if you looked closely all their pics highlighting suspension travel, trucks had no rear (diff-diff) driveshaft installed 🤣

Yes, I see a LOT of tag-a-long 6 x 6 builds.

Waiting on the Front/Rear pass through axle now. So off the rack and on to other projects now.

We’re not as funny here in NZ. We just call them
Ute chops. Plus we’re too cheap to buy the personalised number plates!

I got a good kiwi friend. Traveled with him a bunch and he is a great travel buddy. Funny as well but not nearly as funny as aussies. The aussies are just always clowning and have hilarious slang words. I never even heard the word “pommie” until aussies said it. Needless to say the British guy didn’t seem to like it much! 😂🤷🏼‍♂️

When I was in Australia I heard a lot of yankie c*nt or pisshead or similar. Lots of drinking challenges and rowdy “you yanks can drink for s***” type comments. Didn’t bother me one bit, hilarious other words like gunt as well, short for gut c*nt. I have always known it as a “front butt”. 🤷🏼‍♂️ 😂😂

Cheers

If you can shorten a word and add an O or Y on the end, or drop the last consonant on most words, you might just be speaking Strayan.

If you regularly combine two words into one new one, or replace a word with a completely random rhyming word, add in heavy sarcasm that's as dry as a nun's cùnt, replace several words in every sentence with ****, cùnt, shìt etc, and refer to your dickhead or fùckwitted mates ( this is all of them) with deeply derogatory or ironic nicknames, you might just be a misplaced bogan, and you've been born on the wrong continent!

This is why I took zero offense when I was in Oz or being around Aussies elsewhere. It’s obvious the words and jabs are light hearted and meant in fun.

Thanks! 12v Cummins, zf6, np205,3 link front, 4 link rear, 14” coil overs, f550 axles, custom frame and 120 gallons of diesel onboard to get me to Argentina!
Whoa… you’re set. lol. I thought the stretch would be a perfect time to go to a Dana 60 out back. Evidently I thought too timidly. 😂
