5. No mods...yet
6. Girlfriends DD with some camping and wheeling mixed in.

Just picked her up this week. This is my first LC but I'm ready to get moving with the wheeling and mods. I have been a jeep guy, so I am no stranger to wrenching and unfortunately spending money on the rig. We decided we wanted needed a larger vehicle, but something cool at the same time...of course. First mod is to install a better stereo! This forum has already been a great help and look forward to being part of the community!

80-series in the UAE

1. 1997 FZJ80, Gulf Spec
2. Joel Ericson (Honger)
3. working on this
4. ~145,000 km (about 90K miles)
5. No mods yet... but with so many factory goodies who needs mods! Fridge/freeze install this weekend; RTT in the near future.
6. Daily driver for the :princess: and kiddos. Weekend offloading and exploring here in the UAE.

I picked this up off the original purchaser a Scottish guy retiring to Portugal after having worked here in the UAE for 30 years. Nice fellow and he took great care of her and also made sure she was used properly (camping in the desert and mountains). He nearly choked up when we changed the title over to me... his wife did.

Plans are pretty basic... only mods that can be removed and taken home with me. I've got an Engel 45 to put in as soon as the parts for the accessory circuits get here. I've got my eyes on a roof-top-tent as well. The bull-bar will get pulled in the near future.

Our previous exploration vehicle was a 2008 FJ Cruiser. We've got a 20-month old boy and his brother is 'in the oven' so we wanted something that could accommodate our growing family. I've gotta say I already like this 80-series more than the FJ (though the FJ was a hotrod in the sand out here).

Photos as follows:

Speaking of Rear A/C, why do I remember seeing an 80 with some clear plastic ring which follows the A-pillars? Was that only a concept version or something?

Clear plastic tube (a little hazed now) from the fan/evaporator assembly (in the rear passenger side quarter panel) following the pillar and pumping air out of the vents overhead. Controls are on the driver's side of the row of vents. These pictures highlight just how bad the dust is here... see it in the vents!

Thanks for posting those! They are probably the first good pics I have seen of the system.

The dust does look pretty serious!
