Ha, yes I'm taking the the Henry Ford approach to the color. Choose wisely :flipoff2:

I don't like FORD! Ford, Chry!@#$, and GM should just make bicycle tires and tubes...hahahaha, I can say this because i have a Ford with a blown motor!

If one was to order a scout to add to the existing mini & FEM lid order...would it be possible to get all three keyed alike? And in that vain, if one were to order a 2nd FEM+lid, would it be possible to get all 4 keyed alike?

Absolutely. Your key number is filed to you and your order. Anytime an new order comes in it's the first thing I ask. I have a very small stock of one off locks. All of the rest I order as needed in case there are keyed alikes needed.

Good answer my man.

I just got the invoice for the tall (Scout) lockboxes. The metal shop charged me a prototype rate instead of hourly shop rate since there was some programming time and some fine tuning time needed for the box and the lid. So just for this batch I will just spread out the cost over the number of units I got then adjust later if there is enough demand to do a second run.

You can find the updated link here for the Scout:
Wits' End Lock Box-Scout, 80 Series (93'-97')

Basically its an extra $25 per unit for the taller version. Sorry guys, I was hoping to keep it closer to the original price. :(

The new pics will be put up once they are back from powder coating. I will also make an option for Combo lock vs Medeco lock for those that drove me nuts about having the option :flipoff2:

I didn't see the option to upgrade my existing order to scout size. What is the trick?

It's been a long ass day and going to be a horribly long and hot weekend. It was 110* today and tomorrow is supposed to be 115* :(

This unit is painted just for the pic. The others need powder coating. Everything is back from tumbling FINALLLLYYYYY! This means I'll be welding all weekend. Fun fun fun.

I have all the hardware except for the bushings which should arrive by tues. The rings and quick release isn't part of the package. Just did it for the picture. Sorry folks :(

just got done with dinner and now I only have 1/2 of what i got today!

I have to swing by and pick up one of those scouts. That's just freaking too cool not to have.
I just have to wait until the truck is out of the body shop, I made a small boo boo pulling out of the local AAA parking lot :bang:

Damn good thing you had the slider there to deflect what it could. And yeah, you live 5 blocks behind me and we still haven't met :flipoff2:

I've still got the PC and laser etching to do plus missing some small pieces so I'll update the pics later. But yeah it's all coming together.

It's making me happy because soon I can introduce the other stuff I've been working on.

I think applying your approach to a lock-box occupying the full tail gate would be killer. I like some of the other options but having it hidden under the factory carpet would be ideal. That and being able to have it keyed to the scout...

I had parked next to those short 3ft block walls on my passenger side. After I was finished at the AAA, climbed back into the truck, couldn't see the little wall and completely forgot it was there. That slider saved me from a lot more damage. In all honesty I think my subconscious drove the truck right into it, since I have been waiting for a reason to paint the whole truck anyway ;)

So I have the WagonGear tailgate which is by FAR the best lid option. What I think could use some effort is in the organization of that compartment. The lid itself would need to be re-engineered in order to utilize the OEM carpet. Other option would be a two piece inset carpet but both options are not ones I care to get into. I have other things cooking ;)

That's too bad. I like the wagon gear option but I'd have to re-key it for the scout and don't want to mess with all that right now. That said I'll probably just rivet the factory carpet piece to the lid, and use some kind of grommet to expose the key holes, when I get around to installing it. Now don't you want to save me from all that extra work??!!

Can't key them alike. The WagonGears use the small, mini keys. The entire lock itself would have to change on the lid then I could get those keyed alike to match the LockBox and/or LockingLid. As far as the fiberboard-backed tailgate carpet, take it into an upholstery shop. They can cut out the section for the hinged lid and attach it with either snaps or grommets.
