***UPDATE***

Fatal flaw found. Good friend and ex-coworker of mine came by late last night to go over what I've been working on. He's a structural engineer in trade. I showed him the LockBox first and he pointed out, and then demonstrated the flaw in the design. Ugh. Its so important that I dropped every piece off at a machine shop to have it altered very first thing this morning. I won't go into what the flaw was because no one needs to know what it takes to potentially get into the box without a key. So just know that I am taking steps to remedy it. I am sooooo glad it was pointed out last night because it was going into Powder Coating late today. Fortunately all the work I've already done is not for naught. Sorry guys, just one more issue to get past. I will be picking up partials starting tomorrow and just Powder Coating in smaller lots.

I'm getting closer and closer to needing to sell every one of these boxes to make out at least even. Ugh, live and learn.

The pics in post #610 took me from 6 to midnight! The last post deflated me....:deadhorse:

Keep at it Joey! Thanks for all of the updates!

Flexability? Increased catch length? Just guessing. :) Good Luck.!

Tell me about. Things I didn't even consider and my buddy just schooled me on physics and metallurgy. My heart sunk but it's fine. Plan is in place and being enacted. The new shop is doing me a solid and working on it in batches in order to not have to wait the typical 2-week turn around. I'm very thankful to them and will be sending more business their way because of it.

what is the flaw? the toyota key will open the lock box? or the box takes after joey and opens for young wet noogies?...hmmm...can you open it with a spatula?..

No I wouldn't want you to. No lock box will keep someone out indefinitely, but most people are lazy enough to move along if it presents enough of a challenge to crack it. I think the other things could be handled with just a little additional protective measures.

The fact that the box is hidden in plain sight should keep most people's valuables safe.

Most car theft is smash and grab and I doubt any thieves carry compress air or giant hammer while walking down the street. It's not a safe but it's hidden so I doubt they will go through the car that carefully enough to find it unless they got all the time in the world, in which case even a proper safe can be easily opened with a big hammer and chisel. The key is out of sight, out of mind......literally and figuratively.

Although when I first saw the box at Jory's house I was like....WTF, is that necessary? The box will be hidden, why do you need such thick steel? But that's the Joey way.

It's not really all that hidden, it is out of sight, but most thieves will go through your console and glove box as it is the most common place to keep your goodies. I can see the shorter box being some what more useful because you can place a sheet of metal or plastic on top of the box and make it look like it's the bottom of the console. Perhaps thieves and cops will move along faster when they see the bottom of your console.

Well both options have concealment liners available. But the Mini definitely feels hidden. The Scout reduces the available empty space so much that it looks more obvious.

I agree but if you look at the factory center console isn't very big anyways. Maybe Joey can make a box behind he LX center woofer grill, that pile of crap never worked anyways

The ideal solution would be to cut out the small box on the LX version. But no one is going to want to do that.

All of my CargoLiners are done. I'm dropping them off first thing in the morning to be silkscreened.

The new metal shop did me a SOLID!!! Less than 48hr turn around to take care of over a hundred LockBoxes. They are doing the LockingLids for the FEM tomorrow. Woohoo!!

I pick up LockBoxes tomorrow morning and immediately drop off to Powder Coating. He is working to get them back to me by Friday!!! Damn I hope he keeps his word :(
