Can someone with a 79-84 vintage cruiser confirm how the ebrake handle mounts to the transmission tunnel? Is it supported only by the sheet metal of the transmission tunnel, or is it reinforced somehow?

If anyone retrofitted one into an earlier cruiser, how did you do it and how did it hold up?

Is there any difference between 79-80 vs. 80-84 brake handles/levers? They look the same....

Thanks.

Heres a pic of the handle mechanism and bucket,

the bucket retains the cable.......

after 8/'80 carries a different part # but never noticed any major differences, I've even used one from a 60 before....... just cut the hole and go........

I cut the mounting plate out of a 60 and will be fabbing it into the floor or tunnel. The mounting bolt pattern is the same for the 82 FJ40 handle that I am using.

I thought the only difference between the 79-80 and 81+ is where the brake is actually mounted, t-case versus axle, so it takes a longer cable.

Do you have enough clearance to mount on your tunnel?
