The newest fj40 I’ve owned it a 81 so never knew the transmission cover plates were different after 82. It’s most likely a 79-82 I’ll post pictures of it when I get back home. Thanks again for the heads up

Same here. I learned about the difference because every time the subject comes up LITP chimes in about it. I’ve said for decades that there’s an awful lot of good tech buried in the classifieds.
