Drove the FJ40 in 100° temps to drop it off for the car show tomorrow. Makes me appreciate the ac and cooled seat option in the LC250 😆

Where is the car show?
It was in San Marino! Great turnout, but absolutely unbearable heat today. Got dropped off early and snapped a pic with the great grand parents before leaving.

Cooling down with the fan before a quick diaper change.

Trying to figure out why this thing overheated (according to the dash gauge) the other day. I was wracking my brain wondering if I put the thermostat in correctly, because that was one of the first things I ever changed.

Popped off the thermostat housing and it was installed correctly with the two gaskets. However, this is an aftermarket Aisin thermostat and many threads on here say to use oem only. I have an oem thermostat and gaskets enroute.

Ordered a camera off Amazon to peek inside the radiator and double check that it’s not clogged up. It looks good as new up top, but I think I will pop the lower hose off and check too.

A short while back I installed an aqua hub fan clutch that is supposed to be better than the oem fan clutch. After the install I didn’t hear any more air being pushed than before. Now that the upper radiator hose is off, I will be removing the fan clutch and adding a bottle of 10k cst fluid.

Lastly, I am going to open the block drain and see if it’s clogged. My guess is that the issue lies there, since I never looked into it while I had the motor apart…

Other things to note:

- I just pulled the radiator cap off and there was pressure even after a week of sitting.

- oil does not look like it is mixed with coolant

- coolant does not look like it is mixed with oil

- temp gauge needle rose higher after smog equipment was re-installed

- temp sender could be reading wrong on the gauge, but that wouldn’t explain the radiator pressure while cold.

- I’ve driven it 5 hours round trip without issue, and the heater worked.

- I could possibly have the timing too advanced…

Got a whole bunch of work done, but ran out of coolant and time. I’ll try and fire it up tomorrow…

Opened up the block drain and emptied everything out. Got the endoscope out and checked inside the bung to make sure there was no buildup inside.
