Late start Friday on the TRE's...So far only one problem child. No work Today. I'll try and move along with a purpose Sunday AM-ish.

look fairly new

So bad I had to d'-grease them just to find the castle nut. All but one or two of the rubber boots had disintegrated into unrecognizable pieces. In one instance I found the worlds largest cotter-pin that must have been driven with a rivet gun...Everything soaking in prep for the transfer of duty to the new TRE's...

Up and at it at the crack of noon?

I like the preservation-for-ocean-voyage-level greasing.

I bet he finds Jimmy Hoffa under those layers

Having a day to recuperate brought out the quick remarks did it? Any way, I like your comments there SBG. Now to that Jimmy Hoffa comment, I haven't heard that name in a LONG time. You younger guys will have to do some history searching to find out who he was.

Chungas, I've never been one to make very many comments, but I have been keeping track of how things are going for you. I like what I'm seeing, keep it up.

I am drawing some inspiration from his steady progress. Mine is a 76 as well. Resto-mod though so every last bit I touch soon elicits the upgrade-itis. As the scorpion said, "it's in my nature."

Now the grease, that would be so much fun to melt off. Better get that parts washer you want. I fill mine with good ol paint thinner. Same for my guns prior to lube.

parts washer

What's better than owning a parts washer? Having a Ner do well with a parts washer. The parts washer (borrowed/bartered) was put to good use.

Interesting mixture. More of a soap/citrus wash. Grew up on Varsol (that probably explains a great deal :smokin:).

Everything prepped this AM and ready to start. One interesting moment of lucidity. I'll post up more on that later..

Parts wash/soak was more a preemptive strike than a necessity. Given the "Mules" proclivity for misadventure, I thought it best to spend a few minutes liquefying the remnants of 40 years worth of petroleum encased memory's.

Just a couple shots of the TRE's pre-op and post-op. Lots of memories entombed in all that muck...Everything disengaged as planned. One indignant interloper, persuaded by the torch, came off after a few minutes of butane coercion..

If you aren't dead yet it won't kill you.

I could only beg and borrow what was available. I, like you, prefer to subjugate pockets of litigious petroleum products in one fell blow. But, when you're standing "hat in hand" waiting for the parts washer, a biodegradable solution is better than nothing...
