Hey I'm looking at building something unique in the next year or so in my 1990 hzj75 ute. Mainly looking at trying a 12v 6bt with a td42 box and transfer. Anyone done a successful 6bt conversion in a 75? looking at actually building the motor for big power so its not just stock. I know lots of people say '6bt is too big' 'it'll shred the h55f' 'chassis is not rated for that weight'. I understand that I'll have to do some major custom suspension and stuff to accommodate for the weight of the 5.9 and all that. Anyone got ideas or info on this build, for instance the only time I've seen this done is a bloke in canada with a 75 on an 80 chassis with a 12v, and a bloke in WA with one that wasnt engineered or anything. Any and all help is appreciated.

PS> If not a 6bt got other ideas of a unique build?

Fits without a 4” lift which the 6BT needs.
I was under the impression that you could get some wicked horsepower out of a 6BT if desired.

Yes you can. Not hard to do either.

OP is from Aus? Canada? NZ?

6BT may not be as available, cost to import goodies, ect. Kind of like what we have over here with the 1HD family of engines.

But yes, your build is awesome, you made it work and fit and it didn't cost what a 500hp crate v8 engine costs or an imported Toyota diesel. A lot of factors though on any big build that should be considered and more or less decisions made on ALL those factors.

I will tell ya though, out on the trail, you stinky diesel guys should roll in the back of the pack!

Cheers

I always volunteer to be the caboose for that reason😁. Especially at altitude.

I'm from AUS. As far as I can tell I can get a reco 1hdt from Brisbane imports for around 8k, but then again an imported cummins is the same price in geelong, closer to where I live. And I'm staying with diesel, don't wanna do a chevy or ford v8 diesel because they're so common for big engine swaps, I know 3 different people with 350 chev 75s. The other thing that really attracts me with the 12v is the lack of computers and all the specialised junk. Just like the 1hz I've got the only electronic part on the motor is the starter and the alternator basically!

From my research, yes a 1hdt would suffice in most conditions but just want to do a massive build on my classic Ute. I think if I went with a nv4500 trans and a 60 series transfer case with an adapter I could crank a fair bit more hp out of it, up around 500 and getting close to 1000nm torque, but again that comes with a $4.5k gearbox, plus new clutch, bellhousing, drive shafts, etc and with those numbers probably want to upgrade diffs too.

I basically want to stay with the 75 chassis, even though it is all round leafs, but they're longer than an 80 chassis so I can keep the classic 75 look while having an absolute monster inside.

There are adapters now for using the 80 series case behind the NV4500.

Yeah I've seen those. Also I was talking about a bloke from Canada on youtube doing the 80/75 6bt build checked your thread, realised I was watching your vids, and you're not from canada haha

There is 1 or 2 engineered already in aus that I know of. One doesn't run the p-pump which isn't as good for power. The whole thing will work, you will need a lift however. Again if it was me, I'd 3-link it or go a triangulated 4-link. It's a lot of weight. But outside an engine put in a car or 4x4, all of them are super heavy.
