hey what do you guys know about the 75 / 79 series they use them at the mines around here !

Mobile advertises them but doesnt want to sell them, they'd rather rebuild them for you then sell them to you. Otherwise they want 8K for a bagged out piece of s*** that isn't worth 500 bucks.

They use Toyota's because the domestic vehicles can't hack the rigors of mine work!

They're an awesome vehicle - no offense intended to your american "trucks" but they just arent good enough for mine work, not much good for anything in this country other than towing a big horse trailer on bitumen...

got that right... but they excell at that job...

Lots of common parts throughout the 71,75,78,79 and 80 series.

They out perform anything else we tried underground since I started in1980, anything.

Here is what they should look like (if they don't come out of a mine).

Cheers,

Michael

Are these from underground where the engine rusts from the outside in:eek:

Open pit mine, rust isnt so big of an issue the water is fairly fresh here - its just that by the time the mineing guys are finished with a cruiser the shipping would be more than what it would get at auction. Most of the time they just run them over with a bulldozer and take them to the tip - I'd get photos but it may upset some forum readers!

With the work I do, my troopy gets some fairly serious body modifications (holes cut in roof, roll cage, lots of holes drilled into the inside pannels to bolt things down) and even though I baby it, who'd want to buy it?

I've got a 2nd troopy that I use for running around in between work and darwin / carrying passengers (my main 11 seat troopy only has room for a drivers seat by the time its set up for work) It's a lovely old '87 75 with a 2H in pretty much new condition.

In Adelaide I've got an '83 60 Series - another as new 80's model cruiser :-)

I just need to get one for when I'm at home in Perth now! I've got 3 cruisers dotted across the country and none where I "live". Had my eye on a lovely old '63 model one, but I didnt buy it quick enough

Anyway back the OP's question - I know that of all the vehicles that have been tried in mines in Australia, the 7x model cruisers are the greatest success. They are tough, simple to work on, and have the grunt to get the job done - not in the sense they are sportscars - they just have the torque to pull a big trailer, whilst fully loaded, every day of its working life.
