Starting from scratch need some guidance ..

There are no wires at all going to the ignition / to starter where do I go from here ?

I have them but they do t show everything I need to do on them.

What goes to the fuse box, what goes to the starter ?

What exactly are you missing in the wiring diagram? Use the toyota diagram; it has much more information than the others generally.
The wire colours should match the colours in the diagram, but often they've been changed along the way.

The ignition switch is a simple On-Off switch with 12V coming in to one pin from the fusible link. When switched on, it feeds 12v through to the various output wires.
Each position connects progressively more things (acc, on, start).
Get your test meter (since your wiring is in this state, I assume that you have one - if not then buy one now), and test across the pins for continuity. Switch the key into various positions until you figure out which pin is which.

Do you have any local "car people" friends that can come over and help you out, hopefully they have at least a VOM and a test light. Sorting out old wiring issues can be very frustrating - prior "fixes" often don't follow the color code.

Do one wire at a time from start to finish.

Back in the 90's I had my 72's wiring diagram from the chilton book blown up to A size, on the the back I wrote the tuning and torque specs - should have added part numbers too - then had it laminated.

I could be wrong but I think that black wire with yellow strip supplies + power with ignition, not a ground. What year is this Cruiser. My coil power wire came out of the firewall to the left of the heater hoses and it is (was) black/yellow.

The lower thick black wire yellow stripe goes from the starter mounting bolt to the frame (very rusty) is a ground tho a poor one as is.

I see now that the title of this post has the year. I believe that your ignition plug should have black wires, not green. Are you sure that this is the correct plug for your ignition switch? It seems like the color of the light wiring?

I believe that year should have a black/white wire for starter and black/yellow for the ignition

Yes, I see that now. I agree that it needs attention, though I’d start with the two wires that are disconnected (coil and starter wires).

So the starter wire (white) should go to your ignition switch + when the key is turned to the start position. The coil wire should go the the ignition switch + in run position.

It’s all in black and white though. I get the general idea of what’s going on.

I agree the black and white wire going out the coil will be removed / all will be cleaned and greased .

I’m sssuming it doesn’t matter if that plug on the back of the switch is upside down or not I can index the ignition switch based on the notch at the top. In the earlier picture it was correct in the picture.
I’m uncertain as to where the ACC wires go

Also you can see in the picture of the starter there’s a bigger white wire (it’s to the left of the blue circled area) what’s that one for ?

As Mike Shull mentioned, I don't think that plug is for that switch. The colors are all wrong and the wire gauge is too small.
You should use a factory wiring diagram. Click on the link in post #2, then go to schematic links, then scroll down to your yr. I think the 3rd one down in the fj40 71 might work.

+1 vote for download the correct toyota wiring diagram from the link.

While the toyota diagram is also black and white, it does show the correct colour labels, and more importantly it shows how things like switches work inside, rather than just an empty box with terminals on it.

The layout is less physical though (eg. lights aren't at each corner of the page), but is generally more electrically correct, and has more useful information.

If you don't have the full chassis manual, then also worth downloading - especially since it's all free.

Sooooo what had happened was..
friend came over, we jumped it on the solenoid for a quick start was just wanting to see if it cranked over. It did and ran for a bit

Well he noticed water coming out of the head gasket up in front. Now I got to do the head gasket.

Thanks for y’all’s advice I greatly appreciate it will hook up properly once the head gasket is done.

You've got 4 wires in.
One must feed battery voltage to power each of the settings.
Figure that out from the schematic.
Then using the beep function of your dvom find out which terminal beeps when you hit the spring loaded position.
That terminal gets wired to the starter sol.
The position one back from that powers ignition coil, carb solenoid and anything else which requires power with the truck running. The accessory position (other side of off) will connect to everything that the ignition position powers besides the coil.
