I'm dead in the water. Fuel pump failed. Anybody nearby that happens to have a pump??

Go to the nearest parts store and just buy a low pressure electric fuel pump with fittings that fit your fuel hose. A diode one on Amoron is like $10 https://www.amazon.com/Electric-Universal-Pressure-Transfer-Carburetor/dp/B08PY7V2MM
I use them to make fuel transfer pumps and I run one on my 72 and my f150.

Once out in the desert before I started carrying a spare electric pump, I gravity feed my 72 from a 5 gallon gas can tied to the roof rack with length of fuel hose pulled from my aux tank.

The mechanical pump was a failure.
Were spending the night in Waco. I'll try the electric pump option. What exactly do I need? Any specifics?

Well depends on what low pressure carb pump they have as far as hose fittings/clamps and wire you need to connect it. You can leave your mechanical pump in place and by pass it or put the electric fuel pump between the mechanical one and the tank. You can just wire it up to the battery with a fuse and switch.

Most of the cheaper electric fuel pumps that you will find on the shelves at your local auto parts store are designed to be more efficient at pushing fuel rather than pulling. So for long term use, I believe it is a better practice to mount them closer to the tank and have the pump push the fuel towards the engine.

You'll be receiving an order from me...

Thanks to everyone that chimed in. I purchased a pump at Autozone, bypassed the mechanical pump, and replaced some fuel line hose. It work great. I had previously wired up a kill switch (to the coil) so tying in to a 'key on' line was easy. Here is the pump:

I'll go back to stock, but this works great. I sure wish that I would have done this first... We ended up towing the truck to a motel and I got it on the road the next morning.

I'll be closing this thread soon. Thanks again everyone!

If I'd have taken your advice at the beginning, we would have been on the road last night. Others can learn from my mistake. Thanks again.

Glad it worked out for you. My electric fuel pumps are very handy, beats holding up 5 gallon cans, especially when you get older. I have made up about 10 of the for friends and family. My older sister has used hers to do Diesel for her truck. It is fused, filters the fuel for trash and water. I buy a 25' roll of fuel hose off ebay for like $25. 5' goes on the suction side and the other 20' to the delivery side. The water proof switch is like $5 and the 12' fused cig lighter extension cord is $10 plus a $3 filter and $2 for the battery clamps on Amoron. I usually keep it in the tool box under my drivers seat with a starter, dizzy cap, an old plug and coil wire
