There is a vendor on eBay that is selling "used" manuals.
1966 1967 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40 SUV Owner Owner's Manual User Guide | eBay
I contacted them and they replied that it was actually reproduced by Toyota. I thought it resembled SOR's manual.

Was just wondering, did Toyota reproduce these? Also the specified year on the cover seems different.

Hey Kevo ,

I saw those this morning , the seller has quite the lineup , 1973 , 1974 , 1978 , 1982 etc .

this is the link to all the owners manuals

manualbasket | eBay

they do have the SOR-Flare clear cover w/ black binder jacket

Toyota Motor Corp. USA closed it print media materials distribution center when the T.I.S. network was introduced almost 10 years ago

Its a great reproduction parts concept idea , but $439 for a 1979 fj40 O/M reprint is a Interesting price point to start with o_O

Is SORs repop not just a copy of the original? If so, I can’t imagine spending the difference unless it was an original, I was a collector and/or s*** money!

Saw those as well earlier today. Something seems "off" about these and the various dates offered.

Is the seller reproducing reproduced versions of the originals and modifying anything in the process? In the past, this seller has always appeared to be a "used book seller" not a print shop. The prices seem to be what might be asked for original NOS items. If these were truly reproduced by Toyota, would like to see a photo of the back page and the copyright and printed date info.

Anyone have photos of original covers for side-by-side comparison?

I can’t imagine spending any money on a manual other than a FSM. I’ve got a manual for my newer Toyota... it’s about as useful as cheap single ply when you’ve got the runs.

From a practical perspective having a factory service manual is much more valuable. I think the person that's trying to have a complete fj40 that they detail down to the last Nut and Bolt would like to have an original owner's manual in the glove box along with the light in the blue pouch and the tools etc etc. I think it borders on being called jewelry.

The original 1967 cover is different from the cover on the eBay "repro". The original image includes the round turn signals and driving lights on the front bib. The image on the eBay manual is from the 1970 owner's manual instead.

Thank-you, Bill, for the photos. It will be interesting to see if more of these "creations" appear on the market or if they're limited to just this seller. As a ten-dollar photocopy it would be an interesting curiosity; at an exorbitant price without any attempt at authenticity, something suspicious.

Weren't these advertised as "used" but appearing very much new?

Bill,

Nice observation on the cover differences. Thanks for the great pictures, Just hate to see someone pay gobs of $$$$ for a $10 reprint and a sketchy version at that.

I own a few SOR reprints , although No owners manuals

i bought this EWD like 4-5 years ago

take note the same black binder on the spine , and same white border around the cover perimeter

Go to page 223 @ SOR.com or use this link , they do indeed have owners manuals that cover multi years spans on the early years

For $12.99 I’d consider buying a manual... can’t understand the Ebay price for a “used” manual that appears to be a reproduction.

I will say for the record all 3 of my various SOR re-prints FSM & EWD manuals are High Quality , The plastic cover is actually
a very heavy duty feature

the SOR reprint Price point seams very reasonable to me as well

im a paper-book print media person when it comes to working on Toyota's , i don't do the digital PDF thing , its only a last resort

my 2cents

The Ebay seller has had these listed for awhile now...the prices though, wtf?

If they were original maybe...but $200 for a reprint is nuts.

This seller specializes in manuals , and thats all he sells His user id is " ManualBasket " for pete sake ,

maybe he assumed someones personal collection or a company going out of buisness , that would explain him telling @kevos37

that manuals were printed by toyota , All my SOR reprints still have the original toyota copyrights pages & also DO NOT state in

any way they are a re-print or copy

just being devils advocate .......

also , i could be wrong but it looks like he discounted all the high prices since earlier today , theres No more $439's & $389's

looks like 55% off sale has occurred
