Not killin' my buzz...I didnt think it was correct....just glad I have one.....:) I like the windows in it instead of the corrugated sides ....

If I was going for correct resto I'd be in trouble anyway...:)

So...I'm still enjoying the buzz

Dont wanna be a buzz kill here but that may not be the correct top. 65s came with a top with corrugated sides. *disclaimer* there are always exceptions. You will be able to tell by the top rail of the doors....

Actually, corrugated tops stopped mid year in 1965, so this could in fact be the correct top for this Cruiser.

Nice that you have the doors, now all you need is to paint the sides, and back door white to match the 40.

looking great, you are doing a fantastic job

The build date/month was October '64 so I'm okay knowing It probably should have the corrugated top (early 65).....but I'm really happy it just has a top...especially after the top sat at the body shop unclaimed for a few years!

Thanks for everyones support...I'd hate to think what I'd have done if not for this forum...

yeah, I need to get some soft top side mirrors too...not sure i want the hubcaps yet though....

The mirror and arm are still available from toyota. When you get the arm, you get to choose between round and rectangle mirror. Congrats on your find

only reason i made mention was there could be a small issue with the doors. If the doors are for teh older top then the tops of the doors are slightly different from the "newer" top doors. Thats the extent of my knowledge on this as i had the same issue with my 65.... The Mud elders pointed out my existing doors would only work with the older tops.....so, a change in doors "may" be in order..... I "had" a 65 with a 71 top..... I lucked out and found an old school top so i did not have to change my already finished doors...

Do you have a pic of your doors?

Best door pic i have. Notice the top is pretty thin and flat, this is for the old top. Something else to note, the wing window opens into the wind, suicide style....

I read through your thread on the tops after searching about it a couple days ago....

Mine are the newer doors that go with the top...I'll post a pic in a little while to make sure....

I'll check it out...The Toyota dealership has shot me down on the last couple things I ordered...they got the rims, maybe they can get the mirrors for me...:)

I remember that thread...always fun looking for the right part  Glad you found an old top !

Those windows that you have are called bug catchers, and only the ones like yours "that open into the wind" are technically called "bug catchers"...let me know if you ever finds seals for them :crybaby:

Really good score.
I paid $1700 for my '67 with a spun bearing and was happy to do so.

Give CDan a call for OEM parts.
On the parts that he quoted for me, he quoted with some sort of TLCA or otherwise discount over retail.

American Toyota

Ask for Dan in parts..........

OK - Posting a pic of the doors to make sure they'll work with my newer "uncorrugated" top....

I'm torn between getting the hard top blasted and painted versus buying a soft top....I've got the hard top in pieces ready to get sandblasted and I picked up the window seals for the 5 windows from the local glass shop...

I was thinking of spraying white durabak (rough) on the top instead of trying to get someone to match the paint.....

If the hard top is torn down and ready to go to sandblasting and then paint, might as well. It seems you've got momentum on your side. Then you'll have it for whatever you decide later on. You can always sell the hard top as a finished product and go the soft top route if you want.

Rig looks great!

I am by no means an expert, but i'd say your doors are the newer style based on the above mentioned top design and corner windows being the newer style which opens at the rear.

looks to me like you should be good.

nice work!

Finally decided on a soft top to get me through winter...Did a buy it now on Ebay for the 599.00 Bestop Super top, Used the 10% coupon per Ebay and with $20 shipping got the deal for $560 shipped....It'll be here Monday....Can't wait....

Rig looks good. I am going to buy a soft top too. It won't get any cheaper.

OK - Got my Bestop Soft top today as planned.....The hardest part was the realization that I'm 125 pounds wet and I didnt have enough bum to pull the top taught.....and raise the rear bow.....:)

I did manage however and am thoroughly excited about my top.....Its only been an hour but I like it so far.....Maybe I'll post some step by step pics...

The fit is nice and it appears to stay very nice around 60 mph...Overall Its a very nice feel and I'd do it again in a heartbeat....

I'll post some better top pics but the kiddies and I were ripe for a ride so this is all I got so far....

It seems you have made your decision, but I did want to add that nothing beats the look of a hard top on these 40s. Looks great anyway!
