Bored at work, and I need to keep myself awake, so time for an exciting update.
I have actually done more than just listen to the 61 rust and bitch about it's wrong handedness over the past 6 months... although not much more mind you.
Removed dodgy LSD that was clunky in the rear end, replaced with one of the spare 4.1's I've been packing around for years ( a front, so considerably less s***ty than the average rear), and threw in the rear spring bushings that I bought 3 years ago with some greasable pins ( because I finally found the damn things)
Redid the rear heater lines with some copper I found, and added a bleeder for the coolant system. I was sure that weird fitting on the back of the engine was a bleeder, but buggered if I could get it open if it is. Heater is noticeably warmer this year, so maybe I had an airlock, but more likely the rear heater bypass was causing some backflow.
And, I got sick of looking at this.
So I had a go at seeing how badly I could fxxx up some bodywork after managing to not do any for something like 5 years...
We got considerably more snow than Duncan yesterday...
Had to sneak under a downed tree to make it to work yesterday morning, it was dangling off the powerlines, but going around would've taken an hour in that mess ( damn near a blizzard, I couldn't see more than 20')
Turned out better than I thought would, considering the general impatience and ineptitude of the dude involved. It's a 60, so maybe it'll last 2 years.
Actually found a spray bomb at crappy tire that's a pretty close match for the paint. They have a pretty good selection with Toyota p/n's even.
Still have to do the other side, strangely the lip is fine, it's just a bit of the dogleg that's s***ty and the door bottoms.
I grabbed a full set of doors complete with 80's striping from John before he fled to the interior, but I'm going to wait to put them on until after the salt trucks are gone.
Can spare them from one winter at least.
And lastly, I rekeyed the passenger side door, having been frozen out of the driver's door a couple times. Hardest part of the whole process was getting that freakin chrome cover off without messing it up too badly that it wouldn't go back on, and then getting the little door flap to stay put while reassembling.
Adjusting for the key itself was easy. Half dozen little blades that get pushed out of the way by the key, mix and match until they're as flush as you can get them, then file off any excess. I only had to file one blade. Did it more out of interest than anything, but it worked out fine.
New batteries were in there somewhere too...Old ones were from 2008. That's a record for me with a 24v truck. Suspect the little solar panel battery minder has a lot to do with that.
Here endeth this mesmerizing edition.
