working from my phone hit send not delete before i finished.

my initial plan is to compare to see what it would take to utilize a 1FZ bell housing. if that fails use it for my use with the cummins swap on a one off adapter to and SAE or Dodge adapter plate. if i think the 1FZ is an option I've thought about a second cruiser and 1fz turbo. TCM-2000 controller on the trans and mild turbo using stock 1FZ ECU.

i almost bought a few 4runner A750F but the potential weaker internals and output differences as an unknown, i ran across an LX 2004 trans and transfer case and said what the heck it's only money.

With that $20k + number for swaps out there, a turbo 1fz-fe, a750 transmission, and stand alone ecu/tcu (Wolf?), would be a nice package at a competitive price.

it's a hobby I learn as I go. it's a challenge and i use it to re-leave stress from work. yes I said re-leave stress. i'm an engineer my motto is "if it ain't broken, take it apart and fix it". if your patient wait for deals and the right buy do the labor yourself spend hours tuning and tweaking you can have a truly unique vehicle made of complex modern components. the A750F for me is a trans specifically designed for 4wd with a low first and great overdrive for a powerful high torque engine i don't think the 1FZ in stock form meets those requirements.

yes, 275 lb-ft is hardly considered high torque for a heavy SUV, even by the 90's standards.
50 more would be better from the VVT-i engine.
My wife always complains about the lack of power 80 has.

You're gonna wish that more with the 5 speed tranny. The drop between the 1st and 2nd on the 5 speed is greater than on the 4 speed.

Its not the gap size, its the ratios, The 5 speed is perfect in that it gives me a lower 1st but 2nd to 3rd is still reasonable. I mean, you could almost just start in 2nd with the 5 speed and be where you are with 1st in the 4.

Cause I do. I want something like the 2.042 between 1st and 2nd, pulling a trailer uphill 1st gear does great, but it bogs in 2nd, it drops just a few too many revs. Maybe its just my rig, but there feels like a lul in the powerband between 2500-3000 and it would be nice not to go from redline in first to 2800 in 2nd, 3200 would be great. Granted that there would be an even larger drop (As you said) but at redline with a 3.52 im going much slower and could recover revs better at a slower speed with a 2.042 than I could with a 1.53 at a higher speed.

You need a hybrid (5 speed with some 4 speed gears) or a 6 speed in that case.

There are 6 and 8 speeds out there they just any the same size as our to fit nicely. The 6+ just opens up a can of worms that marks4wd already makes for the 70 series

And then there is the whole transmission control issue. The 80 computer will obviously not control the A750 so you will need to get a stand alone controller. The problem with a stand alone trans controller is that it does not communicate with the engine to cut the timing and torque between shifts so you might suffer accelerated wear on the transmission. This could be solved with stand alone engine management as well, but then you are opening up a whole mess of work.

And yep @Luke111 is right, my original intent of this thread was just because the A750 supposedly holds more power! lol.

A shift kit reduces accelerated wear also. The main purpose of such a feature is for a nice plush smooth shift without that wear. Nice quick firm shift keep the power going to ground while reducing wear. Will it last as long no but ill.have more fun.

did a quick search and there are lots of reports that WolfEMS will do it even a plug and play 80 series and 100 series set ups. i just don't get that they have no info on it. there V550 manual mentions transmission once in the whole manual and that it has 2 outputs for transmission control??? needs more than that for a simple 4 speed with lock up. found another reference that the trans should be tuned by one of there shops. i guess that covers them not talking about it at all.

but yes they do say they can do it...

They have no problems showing a shop how to do it, but they just say unless the shop has seen how it's done then they won't be able to work it out.
